@nekojanai It's just like how Richard Stallman was saying the entire stack needs to be free software for something on top to be truly "free"Both the clients and the servers need to run open source software for it to be really open source.. that said, I think having open source clients could facilitate the creation of independent open source servers in the future - without proprietary anti-spam features for example

@wolf480pl @nekojanai Theoretically an unofficial open server could always be created given our understanding of the open APIThat said, I think it practically makes sense to avoid unnecessary effort and stick to open standards like ActivityPub, XMPP, Revolt and Matrix and all

@Zergling_man Laptop was crushed when you brought along a friend :(That's sad though now you have to bring the monitor along to get anything reasonable done at all

@Zergling_man Is it feasible to just repair the laptop screen or are you going to have to ~~total~~ replace it? You're probably going to need a screen both at home and the store

@Zergling_man Oh that isn't too bad all in all - I'm glad you already have enough monitors because otherwise that'd be a lot more annoying with the low supply of 10-15 inch screens and all

@fsf Nitter is both faster and more (mobile) responsive than Twitter's proprietary frontend. It's incredible to see the things you can do without Javascript. I hope Nitter can coexist without Twitter disabling vital features of the unofficial Twitter API that Nitter uses. It's incredible what we can do with Nitter, and I hope Twitter has the heart to overlook, or embrace, its existence.

@shibao In social media, it has become where you must choose the lesser of a multitude of evils. The only truly mainstream federated open-source communication platform there is is email, which simply isn't an adequate solution to real-time messaging or group conversations (nor, in practice, encryption)

@libreoffice I use #libreoffice in the professional space because of its wide range of features such as PDF editing unavailable on many other office suites and because of its adaptability. While I used to use proprietary programs in the past, since I used a niche application, the constant fear of deprecation would loom over my head. With LibreOffice, not only do I never have to worry about obsolescence, but I can also change LibreOffice to fit my workflow through its code.

@Zergling_man I don't usually use Android but simple-mobile-tools from f-droid have done me well. Termux is pretty fun (but Terminal Emulator for Android might be more close to what you need). All on F-droid of course. Most importantly have fun; you aren't forced to try new applications every day ;)

@Zergling_man The target demographic is different, I guessI will say though that Firefox will choose any valid URL combination before searching; however, its URL detection can be somewhat spotty (it doesn't like spaces in URL names, it doesn't like certain protocols) and if it doesn't think it's a url there's nothing you can do to force it to otherwise.

@Zergling_man That in particular I dislike about Firefox's behaviorIf you change the UI to add a separate search bar, the chances are you don't want to search in the URL bar automatically. But that's exactly what Firefox assumes
