What is the most sustainable (financially) way supporting the Mastodon community? Or is it reasonable to expect it to survive only through voluntary efforts?I'm definitely one of those willing to pay a monthly fee to support the longevity and development of the network. How do I go about doing that?

@seb Sure, for now. But let's assume, and hope, it will grow into the millions of users per instance. Scaling will require time and resources. Either way, let me know when and how I can help. Even if it's just a few bucks towards paying for infrastructure. :)

@seb @stux @jerry I've got no experience to share unfortunately, but come across this post talking about transactional pools rather than session based.https://masto.host/mastodon-pgbouncer-guide/

Not sure what reach this will get, but hey, worth trying. If you're interested in joining a dedicated and rapidly growing European IR-team #Truesec is recruiting more IR-folk. You'll be joining a team of about 30 people working exclusively on IR, nothing else. No consulting, no extra 100% pure IR.Forensics, malware reversing, infrastructure rebuilding, coders, well yeah... anything really. Take a look at https://career.truesec.comOr DM me if you like.#Job #IncidentResponse #Europe

Let me just be clear, Truesec is much more than IR, but just wanted to highlight an awesome team recruiting, growing and expanding across Europe and looking to do more awesomeness in the world.

@seb @alaric I would then like to extend a thank you to all of you keeping an eye open for bad behavior and reporting it. Without your help we'd not be able to keep this community healthy!

@sj a most delicious tarpit project. Indefinite dynamic generation of recursive folder traversal using ../ and ./ as folder names and why not throw in a couple of '-rf' and 'cd ..' folders in there as well.

Just bought the Android Fedilab app by @apps for Mastodon. Really impressed with how feature rich the client is, multiple accounts support, great customization for themes, and so much more I have yet to experience.I have kind of underestimated the importance of Apps. They are after all the lens through which users experience and see the Fediverse. Thanks for this, and happy to support the development. Please consider adding a monthly supporter option.#Fedilab #Mastodon #Android #Client

Running #GrapheneOS as my main driver since a few days ago. Seriously impressed for many reasons. But just had my first OS upgrade. Smooth sailing. Only some minor issues so far, Tailscale has to be restarted at each network switch, but perhaps its just me.Leveraging multiple users for improved isolation and privacy. Generally just a fantastic experience so far.And of course I became a monthly sponsor for $25. Definietely want to support projects like this.[ #GrapheneOS #Pixel7Pro @GrapheneOS ]

Me and @seb are looking for moderators to ioc.exchange. The job is mostly pretty straightforward, respond to reports by investigating reported profiles, their messages and excercise good judgement.Sometimes its really hard, but you will never be alone because we are a team doing this together for the instance, the community and Mastodon at large. We are looking for individuals that want to support us in this important task by volunteering your time, consideration and good judgement.Write to me or @seb if you feel you are up for it.Please boost even if you are not interested in moderation :)

My colleague once described an analogy between the cyber criminal ecosystem and an assembly line. In any developing and growing ecosystem you are likely to observe specialisation as a consequence of growth and evolution. One such consequence of this maturing ecosystem is the Initial Access Broker enabled by Credential and Information stealer malware. The market of credential stealers is flourishing with many families available for purchase by criminals. This subset of the ecosystem, the information stealer market, is itself an ecosystem growing and developing. We noticed recently that actors have begun to offer services to make malware much harder to detect by EDR/AV-tools. They do this by offering various forms of technical "packers" and "cryptors" making each iteration copy of a malware unique and adding multiple layers of obfuscation. This is yet another development and evolution of a maturing ecosystem.#Malware #Development #ThreatIntelligence

Have there been any attempts at visualizing the federated network? Something that would include currently known instances, the ones which are blocked etc.Visualizing the network may yield insights into the overall health and function and could be continuously monitored for issues. Or just to render pretty pictures.#Visualization #ActivityPub #NodeNetwork #Graphs #GraphNetwork #Mastodon #Fediverse
