#ActuallyAutisticA few on here might like this. Seen on Reddit. Go and look at the actual video if it catches your eye, the compressed version attached is nowhere as good as the hi-res version that they made.https://www.reddit.com/r/autism/comments/yz5s3m/so_i_made_a_thing_and_now_i_cant_stop_looking_at/https://v.redd.it/k0bztku9qu0a1

Not a great day for photos. (EC in one)Was mostly horizontal rain/sleet.Definitely a day for waterproof socks, which we omitted. So once we were moving, we weren't stopping much for a picture. That and keeping water off the lens was nigh on impossible.Got to snow though, and more than is in the pics, but at that point it was move fast to keep blood flowing to the feet.Switching to winter pack/kit for the next wander. Seems like it's time now. A way off needing the axe, but it'll get filed and thrown on the back as a precaution anyway.Plus more gloves/mitts. Wetted out the little one fast today and ended up in Buffalo Mitts to keep our fingers OK. Time to start looking after hands again.Needed that, as we are up to leave in the wee hours for England tomorrow. 10-12 hours of driving, a funeral and wake with people that we will never see again. Needs must, but ugh :ablobgrimace:

Garage workbench cleared and cleaned.Lots of stuff got lifted onto it to get it above the water 🤷‍♀️Which now means we can clean and oil water damaged tools later. Surface rust on bits, and water got into odd stuff like the trolley jack and the like.But.Now pooched. 💤*(Also filled and moved a bunch of sand bags before starting.)*Time for a shower and food.

@fitheach@mstdn.io House was OK.20cm of water swept through the garage, greenhouse and summer house.Got a hole under the back fence, badger sized, where it tunnelled out after moating the house. Not great, but better than some.Woman in a nearby village was swept away and list trying to save her dog 🙁

@fitheach@mstdn.io Not worth the insurance. Mostly OK.Just a large amount of work to put everything right again. There is a bit of flood defense planning going on for future events though, so we don't have to do it to the same extent again.

@fitheach@mstdn.io Yep, and tarpaulin. So bags and then tarpaulin pinned by them, lifted and stapled to raise the barrier 3ft.Will have everything cut and ready, so if it looks like we need it we can go and block all the ingress points in about 15 minutes.

Our wife's birthday today.Cake and stuff later when she has finished work, celebrations at 6am lack a little something 😆Youngest is making fancy cupcakes as she is off school 👍Couldn't really wrap a huge box without wasting a massive amount of paper, so just hiding the labels on the box 😆

Being decadent, as we have our girls back in the house for a few days. It's not even 10am and we have a fire lit.Figured we have enough wood to burn both in the day and evening for a bit while everyone is about. Both the younger people and the cats do love a bit of coziness. *(Especially as we don't do much to heat the house during the day most of the time 😄)*

For some reason, our brain fell on the memory of PLA a few days ago.Checked the date, saw it was the anniversary coming up, so left a reminder on for today.None are ever gone. They live still in the marks they leave on those they have encountered during their time on this plane.Ride long and strong evermore PLA 🚲https://constantiaoomen.com/2021/01/24/patrick-lee-archibald-pla-july-23-1961-january-5-2021-age-59-angel-has-become-angel/

@fitheach@mstdn.io Yup.We've been using powerlines for, well, multiple houses 🤷‍♀️ >7 years?Great option.Currently use it to stretch between the main house and the den, where WiFi is then provided for there and the garden. Really simple reliable option as we already had buried power cables, so just plug in and go 👍

@fitheach@mstdn.io He wasn't. They killed him and then he came back to life apparently. 😆---https://www.visit-burystedmunds.co.uk/blog/discover-the-myths-legends-of-bury-st-edmundsThe story of St Edmund, who ruled East Anglia from AD 855 to 869, tells of the brave King Edmund who was killed by Danish invaders on 20 November 869 after refusing to denounce his Christianity.A wolf is a central figure of his story. The story goes that after being tied to a tree and shot full of arrows he was then beheaded. When his body was found, the head was missing, thought to have been thrown into briars in the forest. However, supporters of the King heard a wolf call to them and upon tracking it down, found it guarding the king's head. When the head was reunited with Edmund's body, the head and body miraculously fused back together. Thought to be a sign of his sainthood, many miracles were then attributed to Edmund and his shrine in Bury St Edmunds became a place of pilgrimage.

First power cut of the year.Out and about, as it has taken out the village and the mobile phone masts. So no communication other than the landline unless you travel.Being transport for cancelled bus travellers at the moment. On the upside, there will be free wood.Already spotted fresh fallen trees 😆

@stannard@mastodon.org.uk @john@liberdon.com 32 is low, but the great Indurain won five Tour de France titles with a resting rate of 28, so maybe you are just readying for a great bike ride. 😉 Glad they are taking care of you, and hope you get to find out it is nothing major and get home soon. 🤞

#askFedi #askFediverse:boostswelcome:OK, so in the general scheme of the UK falling apart (eat turnips, don't protest, be poor) there is a distinctly non-zero chance that the Signal messaging app may no longer be available. We are well aware of it's limitations, but compared to the Meta ecosystem having our social graph, it's quite usable for family and friends. So, what's a good alternative?Have half an eye on Briar, which we haven't used for a while, but is seemingly in active development. Primarily access via Android, as most people we know are on there for mobile use. Linux desktop access would be good too.Security is in the privacy interest, not protection from state actors, though security is good, we need to onboard non-geeks.Boosts and suggestions welcome. We are in no hurry, but just looking to be prepared.Thank you lovely people.--- Signal says it'll shut down in UK if Online Safety Bill approvedhttps://www.theregister.com/2023/02/25/signal_uk_online_safety_bill/
