@ned @philcolbourn I'm keen but obviously a busy time of year so might be hard to find a day that suits everyone. I'm guessing 'Sir Chris the drunken mindtral' wants to do gasoline pony? My only free weekend is Sunday the 8th. Or we could do Friday nights 29th, 6th, 20th. Or if none of those work we could try for a week night.

@eriner cool, I was looking for one of these a couple of years ago and didn't go ahead with the purchase because the specific one I was looking at was expensive enough for me to find offensive. I have not since remembered to look for one. Now I see a bunch of cheap ones online. Thanks.

@eriner Personally, I like headlamps. In 2020 after checking reviews I bought a nitecore ultralight headlamp (popular with runners/hikers, is water/impact resistant). Worked great despite abuse, then my son was playing with it and lost it. Found it several months later sitting on a dirt pile (full sun/rain), assumed it would be broken, charged it, son of a gun it still works! And still going strong to this day. Got a newer model for the for the kids, seems just as good.https://flashlight.nitecore.com/ILLUMINATION/Headlamps

@ned we are holidaying in Nepal, one of the hotels had a tv, kids begged me to put it on, I didn't want them wasting the holiday watching tv the whole time so I put it on India MTV thinking they'd hate it. Completely backfired, now my 3 year old daughter is obsessed with Bollywood dancing/music videos lol

Noticed a recent increase in articles about the benefits of childlessness, this one changes the word to child-FREE, sad. Also states benefits of easily going to holidays/concerts, but then being isolated from friends that have had kids is unexpected. All selfish, but also how did you not expect to end up a cat lady?Yes, we have childless friends/family and we try to include them, but articles like this are from a sick society.theguardian.com/wellness/2025/jan/09/friendship-child-free

@eriner lots of good advice below. Only thing I'll contribute is champagne yeast worked well for me making strong cider. The guy who sold me the yeast also sold me yeast nutrient, which probably is good for the yeast...

@FortyTwo hey, I brought this up with a biologist friend last year and he called BS on me. I saw your post, googled it and found the below. Is there any more to the story that points to it leaking from plum island? https://theconversation.com/no-lyme-disease-is-not-an-escaped-military-bioweapon-despite-what-conspiracy-theorists-say-120879

@ned even as a homeowner, I'd be very happy to see the market crash. Though it would be bad for me financially, I'd rather pay that cost then live in an unsustainable society.

@eriner when I was 6~7, at school doing a reading group thing, we read part of a book then answered a comprehension question. One time the other ~5ish kids all had the same answer but I had a different answer, they assumed they were right and I was wrong and were ready to move on. The teacher informed them that they were all wrong and I was right, the lesson moved on, no one seemed to think much about itBut it stuck with me. I think this was when I became a "do your own research" kind of guy

@ned @philcolbourn it's not a big drama, you can set it up so you can access both drive partitions on both OSs...I don't see any downsides except you don't get geek cred.

@eriner there was part of me that hoped something would happen and I'm sad. Maybe something will happen with RFK? Or maybe Tulsi or Elon will save us? *fell for it again award incoming*
