whenever I'm out drinking and we cheers to something I always habitually cheers the bar, whether it be against the bar or table or a wall depending on where we are. which I've been told is a pretty explicitly southern thing but what I've noticed more is that it's a poor folk thing.good dives act as community centers in certain respects so it's beneficial to marginalized folks to respect the place they gather. now yeah that comes with perks like a not insignificant time my tabs are free, or free drinking after it's closed to shoot the shit with the staff.but the other thing I noticed is that folks who *don't* have those habitual behaviors tend to kinda shit heads when it comes to operating *within* other community spaces. I won't say it's a one for one because there's definitely a regionality to it, but I won't say it's not something I notice or look for when I'm at my local watering hole.

@jenalyze Uruguay, they've taken massive strides towards accepting trans folks, including paying out reparations not that long ago for past bullshittery. but like always you'll be safer in cities, and you can just hop the border to argentina every few months to renew your visitors visa

one of the upsides of AI making literally everything unreliable on the internet and major places to gather and discuss topics kind of just blowing up left and right due to the bloat that has become the corporate internet, is that it means forums are gonna make a come back, people still want and need reliable information, and if we can't trust google or reddit or what the fuck ever, then they'll turn to people they know who have expertise on a topic. which means forums and clandestine chat rooms will make a comeback and I'm so stupidly excited for that.

it's always been a little quiet. the demographic can be pretty much split up between folks who do and try new shit and people who just post off the wall unhelpful shit. "How can I grow a prehensile tail??". then it got split off into a slack channel which has *some* activity still. I don't even know if they do meetups anymore.

@eris I know a ton of trans men and have worked with, been victimized by, befriended, and when I was still figuring out my shit, fucked. So I should be able to speak on this directly according to your criteria of who ought to have a voice on it.But the long and short of it is I don't think anyone, or most people, who have those takes are trying to say that trans men utilize patriarchy the same way, they don't. The ways that trans men and trans masc folks benefit and utilize transmisogyny is tailored to the spaces where they *can* exercise that power dynamic. Which is largely queer spaces both online and offline. Thinking that they must act on misogyny and transmisogyny in ways that cis men stereotypically have and do just further helps ignore the problem.But if you're looking for specific examples, heres a few that I've either personally witnessed or was targeted with:stating they aren't really men so they can't really rape and so a trans woman was ignored and pushed out of the community for "causing drama"selecting who can and cannot organize in mixed queer spaces based on how aggressive trans women are, blaming "male socialization", but not having to answer for similar aggression in moments of weaknessafter being rejected for sex having a trans woman excommunicated for "latent misogyny"once a trans woman shouted at a trans man after he hit her, and the DV was blamed on her and her inability to "unlearn her male behaviour"Now those are the more extreme examples but the trend you should notice is that trans men and trans masc folks can, and do, claim kinship to the gender that subverts responsibility, and trans women are held to kinship with the gender where punishment is easier to enforce. She got angry? its her male aggression She talks about being victimized? its because shes a crazy woman.But all of this is to say that trans men are men and men are trash is just holding trans men to the same category as men, because they can and do benefit from misogyny and transmisogyny. to fight against that very basic analysis is just #notallmen-ing and its gross and weird.

@eris and to be clear this doesnt even touch on how gender is policed with trans fems in those spaces, the differences in how non binary trans fems and non binary trans mascs are treated is fundamentally different and *theres a reason for that*

Patriarchy doesn't have one play book, played by one player. It mutates and changes with the player, the context, and the hurdles it comes across. Its adaptive. The patriarchy white men utilize is played differently than the patriarchy utilized by black men which is different from trans men. @meadow @lydiaposting potential? What about the real harm that's already happening? IS happening? Your only goal here is to continue to silence trans women, I just wish you were honest about it instead of hiding it behind some rhetoric around keeping the peace. If trans women speaking about their experiences offends or upsets trans mascs and trans men in those communities thats *their* problem.
