@grammargirl @kevinrothrock These theories are well reasoned. I remember being go smacked by the idea, “only the privileged can afford to quit Facebook” (back in the era when it was trendy to quit FB). Leaving social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter is a luxury not everyone can afford, often due to social or professional obligations.

@anderspuck @dangillmor I think people would use it for more than charging if it were useful for more than charging. E.G., what if a high capacity iPhone could be used as a high speed external disk? I could keep a full backup of my Mac, copy and share files with friends, etc.

@futurebird @privateger I can vouch for these techniques. 🫡Although, I think my favorite way to finish a project is to lose my task list and forget there was a project, then be reminded of it several weeks later when the client writes to say the project is cancelled and no longer needed. I’ve been trying to use this method more, recently, but it doesn’t always work.

Things I learned while routing a bike tour:- Route-mapping tools will try to send you through a closed military base (the blue track going along the beach).- Use Google Maps to see which roads the Street View driver was allowed to enter (right image; the base is clearly inaccessible to the public).- Strava Heatmap can be useful for routing, but military people use it, so it includes restricted areas.- There is a Wendy’s on the base. 🍔#cycling #travel #map #BikeTouring #BikePacking

I love that I can edit @openstreetmap myself, and the changes appear automatically in all software that uses it.I marked Nortz Road as `access=private` because it goes through a military base. Now, 21 days later, several mapping tools using OSM data no longer suggest routes that cross the military base (ridewithgps.com, bikerouter.de, and komoot.com). However, Gaia GPS has not yet included the change in its database. Gaia will update eventually.#cycling #travel #map #BikeTouring #BikePacking

@futurebird Most homes in the US have access to 220v, but it's only used for things like clothes driers and air conditioners. In one place I lived, I installed a dry sauna that used 220v, and at the same time added a circuit for a 220v kettle I brought from Europe (hard-wired, not a 220v socket someone might accidentally use). Heating water for a cup of tea took about 20 seconds.

@futurebird I think the appropriate context is usually, “release it from its suffering.”

@ciel Doesn't an “intersubjective reality” also depend on my belief in it to exist?

@ciel Intersubjective reality is the shared understanding or perception of reality that exists between individuals within a society or culture. They are not real things; they do not actually exist, except only in the minds of the people who agree that they are real. This includes things such as money, laws, and countries, and borders. My attempt at humor was to say that an intersubjective reality might disappear if I stop believing in it.
