@john @cmdrmoto love this! It’s a great example of versioning just a bit off of the original design in a way that I feel is better.

Mastodon and the Bring Back Blogging movement has got me reminiscing on the joy of the 90s web. I'm thinking of creating a #webring specifically for people with indie #ttrpg sites/blogs. Who all would be interested in a Indie TTRPG webring? (If you want to bring back webrings and really want to see me make this please boost!) #indiewebUPDATE: seems like updating text in the poll breaks it. Oops! Well prior to this most the votes were for making a webring!

@seldo this is really good. It hits on the fact that the web dev game has always been a constantly evolving race for doing things better — but what defines better (and to whom) is really dependent on situation, and that there are always trade offs in whatever tool you use.

@lowqualityfacts mocking a situation where people died and lost their homes and a fat joke at the same time? Wtf? I had been enjoying your stuff but this is shitty punching down. Unfollow.

@keithjgrant @vanilla personally I don’t feel this applies. I have always been a proponent of the flexibility of design in regards to css rather than pixel perfect and yet I use and really like Tailwind. Utility classes are just css in the end. My resulting site designs aren’t any different than if I were to write css the “normal” way. It’s just that for some projects tailwind makes it faster to iterate and the resulting css file is smaller.

@vanilla @keithjgrant I've been at this game since css was a baby. I understand Tailwind has it's pros and cons — solidly the big one is the "yet another dependency build process". I weigh these whenever I start a new project, like I do any other dependency. I get why people wouldn't want it — I myself don't always use it. I will say that I personally don't find debugging or modifying an issue. In fact, the opposite. I've had way more issues with debugging rat's nest css files over the years.

Sick with Covid but at least I have a comfy bed and a cute dog and perfectly placed window that makes me lit like a Renaissance painting.

@ZachWeinersmith @dadradish TV viewing was just as active pre-streaming with fans — Dr Who and Star Trek being a big examples. I think the difference is that the internet connects fans in a way that acts as an accelerate, creating the modern fandoms. Also big studios are more IP focused than before.

@mike @zachleat I’ve thought a lot on this topic lately, specifically how AI content is inherently inauthentic, and how it is emerging on top of an internet era rampant with personal brand influencers, aggressive levels of irony, and disinformation. Actual authentic human connection is a refreshing breath of fresh air in contrast. The open and indie web movement is exactly this authenticity but there is definitely more to do to bridge the gaps and expand access to people who are not web geeks.

@ZachWeinersmith "The son of a [bizarre] bike shop owner"… There are a lot of deformed bicycles with parts in wrong places in that first part. Though if you're not looking for it you may miss that, much like the study where people miss the person in a gorilla suit in the basketball game. Also has the Sora issue where every shot is slow-mo. The latter half is ok since it's so fantastical.
