it's sending the raw bitstream (10-bit H.265 + AC-3 audio) to the tv, no transcoding, so despite the camera quality the tv image is excellent.mpv integration is via uosc and shelling out to go2tv. install both and just an extra line to ~/.config/mpv/input.conf: # set pause yes; run xdg-terminal-exec go2tv -v "${stream-open-filename}" #! @tomjennings i couldn't get past the 2FA-style email/SMS confirmation for FreeFileFillableForms (IRS-endorsed filing service). i'd enter the code they send me, and it'd tell me "no, that's wrong". thought about filing through my state, which uses id.me, saw the face verification and decided it would be simpler to just mail in my return.i'm in my twenties. i've never so much as paid a bill by mail. it took me all afternoon to find a friend who has a working printer. but god damn if mailing in my taxes doesn't make me feel like i'm living in the future. ain't never going back.

browsing the web for an hour now with a DNS resolver which understands only NS and A records (no CNAME even) and surprised at how much still works ??i mean sure wikipedia is straight unreachable and half the sites using CDNs are text-only now, but somehow i expected more catastrophic failures than this.

@JulianOliver pretty friggin lame but also who are we kidding: the law as written has little bearing on what any of these institutions actually do in the first place. they'd have kept doing it with or without FISA, just quieter.

i've been hearing "Disney movies aren't just for kids" my whole life and thought that just meant they embed jokes i'd only get as an adult. but the bigger part turned out to be that once i was no longer angsty about others recognizing me as a proper adult, i could comfortably explore -- and appreciate -- child-like themes again.

@wizard i think "ancient edgy hacker lore" is a technically accurate description of The Realm of Rough Telepathy -- probably not in the sense you meant (The Story of Mel, BOFH, catb if you can stand it), but i think it's this type of lore we need more of.
