@JordiGH You could practice on me :>I'm a programmer-who-likes-math and doesn't understand this "Incompleteness of Rationals" thing you speak of but wants to :>

@JordiGH So basically every finite set of rationals has a definite greatest and least element, but not every infinite-set-defined-by-a-computation has a greatest and/or least element that is also (in itself) a rational number? :D

@JordiGH Also my programmer self subjectively feels like this is "caused by" allowing infinite sets to be defined by infinite sequences like this rather than "caused by" the numbers being rational—but that's an entirely subjective feeling and I don't think it affects anything XDAlso I wonder if this means computable numbers are "hole-less"?Finite-digit numbers for finite sets, infinite-digit numbers for infinite sets? :>(Crudelys-speaking; where repeating digits count as "finite digits")

AHHHHHH I finally understand quaternions!! XDD :DDI always thought they were neat fun thing in abstract algebra and a neat but arbitrary way of representing rotations with unnecessarily extra numbers. If someone had just said to me this sentence I would have seen how insanely perfect they are!! :DAs rotations, the i/j/k coefficients are the x/y/z components of the axis-of-rotation vector, and the fourth lone number is the amount of the rotation in radians!#Math #Geometry #Quaternions

@freemo OH WAITAttention everyone who saw this post! This is totally wrong!! XD'''Quaternions *are* strange formulas for transforming coordinates!!And here they are!It still annoys me that they don't appear *anywhere on the actual wikipedia page for quaternions*!! X'DBut on this page! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euler%E2%80%93Rodrigues_formulafor quaternion = a + bi + cj + dka = cos(θ/2)b = x sin(θ/2)c = y sin(θ/2)d = z sin(θ/2)where x/y/z are the axis of rotation and θ is the amount in radians!

@freemo that's still super useful :>for me, largely for the eternal quest of avoiding actually computing trig functions in code! XD :Dbut it's wrong to say that the quaternion coefficients match up bijectively, since the vector ones are indeed the axis of rotation, but are still dependent of θ, so you can't separate so neatly them!the quaternion vector is the axis of rotation *scaled* by a function of θ, not as a unit vector! ;D

After locking my account, my second follow request was from Mussolini.alessandropardini@social.byoblu.comSO, YEPIt's a good idea for everyone to lock their account to check who's following you (even if you make no protected posts, if only to report them!) X"DD#Fediblock

@ColinTheMathmo (honestly if I could make the fediverse from scratch I'd maybe have each user be their own entity in a P2P network, not tied to a server; and communities could be more loose, so you could have places users could congregate based on interest (eg mathstodon) and admin/modding could be separate, so users could "subscribe" to moderators who were random people who wanted to spend the time to proactively seek out / block fascists/etc. freeing users to focus on other things)#fediverse

@freemo Well actually, the part of wheat used for bread is the seeds, thereforebread is a fruit. :^)(not to be confused with breadfruit)

@freemo Ahhh I see; it is the bran that is the difference. So it only applies to that which is made of the seed *and* the bran.So whole wheat bread is a fruit, but white bread is a vegetable! \:D/

@web3isgreat inb4 someone makes an NFT on their nuclear secrets(which,)(<,<)(psst.)(>,>)(you don't have to actually have to make an NFT on)(<,<)XD(but honestly heck just the idea they *might* have them might make people pay them- and then each other-! for the NFT and then bam! economic value! capitalism! XD )[*..then a humbler person just makes an NFT on "this whole experience as an abstract concept :> ..yours now for only ~~$~~£19.95"*]XD

Is there a phrase for (the logical fallacy? of) someone responding to people saying something they're doing is bad or has X effect with "I should be allowed to do it!"Given..that's not an actual response/rebuttal/etc. X'D(Like "what you're saying about black people is scientifically false" with "it's my freedom of speech!" or "you're enslaving people" with "it's states rights!" or "they dumped 300 lbs of poison into the Ohio river" with "don't you care about economic freedom?!" or etc.c.c.)

Is this right?Adsorption is when molecules are held by a thing.Absorption is when molecules are both adsorbed, but then the ones held by the thing hold the ones next to *them* (cohesion) and those hold the ones next to *them* and so on (surface tension / capillary action).#Chemistry #Physics #Questions #Terminology
