@selea, except that Freenode used to be run by volunteers while bird site has been a tool of mass surveillance for years? The acquisition can make it worse, but I’m baffled how people are acting as if Elon is ruining something pure and precious.

@selea, it seemed so, but Freenode was benefiting the community until then, unlike Twitter has been (and still is) working for surveillance capitalism. Although I am glad that the acquisition made many people finally leave bird site, I don’t feel it is worth any mourning at all.

@tyil, as @musicmatze implied, the idea of declarative systems like NixOS or GuixSD is tight integration with init systems so that one can declare a service by a few lines in the config. Since it’s done manually for each service the effort is huge while not portable, thus usually one init system is supported. You can give Guix System a try which is currently using Shepherd.

What is Twitter, @falktx, unironically asking? A microblogging site for hipsters? A surveillance capitalist advertisement platform? The company? The service? The user base? The corporate "real" user base?I'd love to see the con artist lose some money, but I wouldn't pretend the acquisition inflicted any loss to the society.

After 18 months and 3200 posts, I’ve decided to move to a new account @cnx. Although I have no complain about NixNet’s admins, they are no longer really active on this instance. This is not goodbye, I still use other NixNet services though and hang around the community instant messaging channels.
