Irving Finkel is the film star for this (actual scholar, just ... incredibly charming)https://youtu.be/XVmsfL5LG90There are a couple of sub-questions because cuneiform was a working language for THOUSANDS OF YEARSAre you writing a poem? In your language or in a classical language? A whiny letter about copper or fancy duds? A recipe? A spreadsheet? A curse? These aren't the same when I write them in my native language, don't know why they would be in any other. @futurebird

I was taken aback by how irrelevant Pinterest’s ads were to me, given that almost everything I pinned was DIY. I read ads from Wawak and Mood and Ace Hardware with interest (they don’t sneak them, which helps). Pinterest mostly showed me Shein.Probably it would be worse to be advertised to accurately? It doesn’t seem to have ruined the Taunton magazines though, eg.@futurebird @sinituulia

A good looking rock. and you can't fake something weathering in place like that. Erratics are all very well, but not the same....and it's so petty... a house designed to set off the rock would have been wonderful, and there are examples in lots of vernacular styles. @futurebird @wikkit

I don't think of those as quite the same thing, except that everthing is becoming one awful thing.I like "platform trap" for the economic capture Doctorow describes, since (a) it describes *how* it works so you can check if youre at risk pre-shit, BEFORE you're trapped; and (b) it is very bitey and snappy to say.@futurebird

I remember it was the census, everyone was supposed to go back to their official town — lots of parallels in history — and I kind of assumed that meant everyone was traveling and all the inns were full.@futurebird

Fossil trilobite; a bit large but there’s enough detailConsidered some handmade craft-fair earrings but I think they’d get stuck in the wax and also bend with heavier use. Trilobite it is. Let’s hope they differ from each other@futurebird

I know it’s how our world worked, but how odd that it’s the fancy rich people who have handily stealable signets. You’d think *they’d* use their noble thumbprints and I, Frida Protagonist, would use persona-specific and deniable doodads. @futurebird

I have watched a well driller do it. Reasonably successfully. I think locals have sometimes developed heuristics that work locally. WOuld like to see dowsing competitions in vadose regimes that are new for everyone involved. (Throw in whatever formal hydrologists would like to try! Underground is hard.) @futurebird

How do they make it dense enough to not wash away at the base? Surely ants aren’t heavy enough for effective particle compaction ? !! Do they drywall-fit the grains together? @futurebird @goaty
