As a product of northern Appalachian area of NY that I have said for decades is culturally related to KY. Has always been a higher poverty area, the neoliberals cleaned out the good union jobs that at one time supported a large middle-class. They've seen their income and status decline. Many more now seem to commute 65-80 miles to jobs. This left a void in their lives that the White Nationalist leaning, ChristoFascist Fundamentalist churches to fill. Bottom line of the whole article is that #Capitalism was always going to end in some form of #Fascism, or a bloody uprising that may or may not prevail on the side of reason/socialism . Inequality, as Prof Reich has pointed out for yrs, has reached the level that historically leads to chaotic collapse.The rural neighbors aren't morons ala "Deliverance", so they must be able to see what Trump is. The level of nihilism born of lost dreams. But the #FASCIST propagandists give them the stories.

@bhasic @Radical_EgoCom Here in the US the "Libs" colluded with the right to destroy the left and the coalition that was created in the 1939s. The propaganda was so intense, along with outright persecution, that few have any concept of a system that is not a #CapitalistCult. Then as the #Dems became #Neoliberal they spent several decades ceding more and more ground to the #ChristofFascists. Now Democratic Republic teeters.

@nytimes Sorry folks, but I cannot listen to #Biden, the #DemocraticParty or the #US in general speak of supporting a "Rules-Based-International-Order" without LOL. My life on this earth has encompassed constant and consistent abrogation of those "rules" by the US and chosen allies with impunity. I might add that the hypocrisy has been so blatant and consistent that it has helped, along with rapacious #Neoliberal #Capitalism, fuel the rise of #Fascism both at home and abroad.

@nytimes The US puts me in mind of the neighbor woman who has no qualms about using so-called swear words attacking her 16 yr old stepson for swearing in her presence. That 16 yr old is learning nothing but disrespect for this woman, and rightly so. Same principle applies to the US hypocrisy in its treatment of the rest of the world.

@aral #Fascism has always been the merger of Olgarchy/capital with gov. Yet, I do not recall anyone that was calling out Trump's fascism for this very crucial characteristic. It was all just based on the racism, other bigotry.

@luckytran #Amish voters helped Trump win, mainly over issue of raw milk. Having the election in PA decided by voters living in the 17th century seems very telling of the state of this nation as a whole. If we work hard enough, we can see an age where the already lowered #birthrates are impacted by a high #mortalityrate for those that are born. Maybe we can get our #lifeexpectancy back down to the 1900 level of ~49 yrs.
