       @futurebird > "Bird can fly"Reactions:"Yes, Larry Bird really flies down the court."-or-"Those Bird scooters are quick indeed"It sounds like the name of a person or company or a service, instead of the generic animal or object. So, then you have to specify "the bird" or something to clarify the generic noun, which is also done.

       @futurebird Could be the first protest in favor of keeping taxes high since the Boston Tea Party

       @futurebird@sauropods.oh it seems like a good way to reduce congestion and raise much needed road work funds. Just don't often see people saying they won't stand for lower taxes.

       @futurebird Maybe that skeleton is an actor, still getting cast in a few parts after passing. That's a good agent.

       @futurebird What might make the difference: Mandatory voting. Australia has it, and a low turn out election still has over 80% participation.

       @purrperl @pluralistic @afx @evdelen @lizardbill My mother was one of those punch card programmers. She moved to Florida, tried to get a job, and was told, "We don't hire women as programmers." So, she took one of those keypunch operator jobs, instead.

       @futurebird We could bring back the Brennan gyro monorail to run both ways on a single existing pair of tracks. Maybe it'll make a comeback with batteries and electric motors and such.https://youtu.be/WVPqltM-Zbw

       @futurebird Yes, the government can do that, and it's not necessarily a bad idea. For example, in Trump's first term, there was a proposal to buy Gilead Sciences, give away their outrageously expensive Hepatitis C treatment, then sell off the rest of the company. As a generic drug, the savings to Medicare alone would have made it a good deal for the government. https://www.npr.org/transcripts/520430944

       @futurebird I hate it when people mistake my drunkard's walk for a systematic search. No, thank you; I don't need help looking for something; I'm just intoxicated.

       @lowqualityfacts Oh, that is so unfair. Clearly, John Oliver suffers from the rare Foreign Accent Syndrome. He would much rather sound like Forrest Gump.

       @futurebird The founder of Hinge left that to start over with Overtone-a generative AI powered app to put people together. I don't know how AI can fulfill the promise of Match's original algorithm (matching people based on factors shown to lead to lasting relationships), but perhaps there is a legitimate use for generative AI in there.

       @futurebird It is pretty normal. I'm skeptical that generative AI can do any better than algorithms and data at narrowing matches and getting people together, but maybe there's something related to it (like visualization) that gen AI can do better.

       @lowqualityfacts Stephen Hawking threw a party for time travelers, but none showed up. Hawking concluded that time travel was impossible, but maybe future time travelers already heard what a lousy party it was.

       @futurebird Until Fannie Farmer's cookbook standardized measurements and terms, there was just no wrong way to write a cookbook. There's a bold before/after line in cookbooks at 1896.

       @futurebird 4 symbols, so maybe base-4 number system24 "cards" so assume 0-23Only 1 base-4 number in that range has 3 of the same digit: 111 (21). So □ must be 1.Only 9 3-digit numbers in that range, and only 1 of them is 1 followed by 2 digits: 100 (16). So ▷ must be 0.Digits 2 & 3 will have to wait until I get home.

       @futurebird I think assignment of ▣ and ■ is arbitrary, so I'm going to choose 2 and 3 just to make it easier to remember: 0 -> empty -> □1 -> partial -> ▣2 -> filled -> ■3 -> triangle -> ▷I can then sort the cards easily0 to 23 in base 10, or0 to 113 in base 4, or□ to ▣▣▷ with the cards
