@freemo Could this be the issue?"If the file does exist in that for (no funny characters), one other possibility is that you're trying to run a 32-bit ELF program on a system that's not correctly set up to run them (i.e., a 64-bit system without the libraries and support infrastructure for 32-bit)."From:https://stackoverflow.com/questions/48179399/zsh-no-such-file-or-directory-error-but-file-exist#Linux #ZShell

@freemo Are you familiar with 'file' on the command line? > file name-of-file should give you a decent amount of useful info about it

@nixCraft Pretty sure that with #emacs I can run a text editor in a terminal running inside a text editor running inside a terminal ...... while running the text editor as the window manager.** that said, you probably shouldn't try this while editing your dissertation

Saw some posts saying vi and #emacs have poor user interfaces and are newbie hostile. That's probably true. They also (basically) claim that users are imagining any improved productivity that they think they get from using vi / emacs. I'm not sure that is always true.If you do a lot with text files, and you put the time into learning emacs, then I'm not sure that something like Kate or Kile is necessarily going to make you significantly more productive. And, all the other things you can do

... for example:* I started with #Emacs back in 1990s because I needed to do Japanese input on an English system. Much less of an issue today, but much, much easier with Emacs back then.* Dired is an incredible file manager.* Org mode - nothing else to say.If you are ONLY writing code, then maybe Emacs isn't the best text editor for you. If you are working in a Google / MS workspace, maybe Emacs isn't the best for you. But, for me, and maybe many others, Emacs is a great choice.

Linguistics wonder: why does #enshittification have to have the doubled 't' in the middle?Even though (the above) is a made up / recently coined word, "enshitification' just looks wrong.Maybe a long vowel thing?

@baltakatei Good point about the "sh" pronunciation. Hadn't thought of that.

Thanks, #TESOL.org, I'm sure it is totally safe to click on:https : // d2zyFj04. na1 .hubspotlinks .comThat doesn't look exactly like the URL in spam emails at all!I hope I don't need to add sarcasm tags here. Why do orgs sending emails to legit signed up members still want to track? You can get hit data from your server, can't you?Or am I missing something actually important?(spaces added to prevent the url being automagically linkified.)#TESOL #ESOL #ESL #EFL (edit: hashtags)

@lowqualityfacts I hear this is one of the reasons for Mifune Toshiro's popularity with both audiences and directors.

@Linux @cosmic_happiness Totally anecdotal, but way back when (around 2000?), when I dual booted, a couple of games ran better on Linux than on MS Windows (98, probably).I don't remember which were in Wine and which were native versions on both. BUT, I do remember that Quake 3 Arena was one that did much better for me in Linux. Was also fun always being in the "no network problems" group at Starcraft LAN parties, but that's a different story.

@tomasekeli Ducking, covering, and putting on my asbestos underwear. but, i'll probably enjoy the coming flame war.Throwing gasoline on the fire:#emacs all the way. It IS the #Linux desktop (via exwm). Can #vi(m) do that?

I spent a lot of time today trying to figure out #GNUPG / #GPG to encrypt and sign backups. I've used it occasionally for literally decades, but still struggle with it. I know if I used it more, I would get used to it and feel more comfortable, but I don't have the time or the need to use it more.Is there another good open source program to symmetrically encrypt a file? But, for signing, you would still need to use key pairs, right?Any good how-tos out there?#linux #cli #privacy #security

Just found out that several "publishers" have put out dead tree version of my Encyclopedia of Japanese History (from https://www.openhistory.org). #CreativeCommons license, so that by itself doesn't bother me.BUT, on various web sites, the blurb says that the work is in the #PublicDomain. That is NOT true. It is published under a CC BY SA license. Also, not sure who "T. S. Wentworth" is, but they seem to have done forwards to literally hundreds of books. Most actually public domain old.

Getting caught up on stuff I fell behind on while teaching that extra #AdultESOL class January to March. For example, finally finished a script for #Google Sheets that will create Forms in the given languages automagically. Easiest way I know of to get multilingual Forms.Next, a Sheets script to create Forms and email to editors and respondents. Then, I'll create the diplomas in #Scribus. Use #ScribusGenerator (https://github.com/berteh/ScribusGenerator/) to "mail merge" them.#TechInEd #EdTech #ESL
