@futurebird I saw a link to the audio but the more important thing I saw is that the whole thing is *not* an unredacted version — so who knows what she really said? Also, it’s an interview of someone who is a known lier and a convicted co-conspirator and is certainly saying what those who have control over her want to hear. For me, it’s an interview that is worse than useless: it’s pro-Trump propaganda.

@futurebird my first young adult social media interactions were within usenet groups. I don’t know if they’re still small-ish enough (like, say, mastodon is now) to keep things feeling “social” and not like you’re swimming in an ocean. But back in the mid-‘90s it was possible to have a social group that felt sort of like a friend group online there.

@futurebird I wonder if the government starts treating citizens more like “illegal” newcomers in great enough numbers (random searches, detentions, renditions elsewhere — things Trump has said he’d like to do to some citizens) perhaps *then* folks will start identifying more w/ their shared humanity and less w/ a “legal vs. illegal” divide. I know that’s not practical advice, but just an attempt to frame the blindness to common cause that Americans persist in.

@futurebird I think I heard a bluegrass version of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” which was pretty good.

@futurebird @geoffduncan @moira reminds me of when folks call Denver a “Midwestern city.”

@futurebird @geoffduncan @moira we do have an affection for the moniker “Queen City of the Plains” but nearly every Denverite will tell you they spend more time hiking in the mountains than birdwatching on the prairie.

@futurebird our family members have done a few international trips recently and our carrier (Verizon) has a choice of daily “Travel Passes” or a monthly equivalent (which is a few $ less per day) which we added to phone plans prior to travel. The former just activates automatically when you start using your phone internationally; the latter you purchase when you want to activate it. Your phone works normally and you use the same number; no extra sim needed.

@futurebird @timrichards reminds me of a certain block in downtown Denver where, without fail, a restaurant food delivery truck will be parked in the bike lane whenever I am riding that street.

@futurebird when we shared an office, my wife and I sat facing away from each other, on opposite walls. This was due mostly to the fact that we each needed more horizontal working space than we could get from any other arrangement. There were windows above both desks, and we could swivel around to chat, so it was nice.

@futurebird I got all my personal and business stuff off of Google … and then had to create a Google account so I could access meetings and files with clients who won’t/can’t get out of the Googlesphere. Sigh.

@futurebird tying shoes is like this. I thought my mom taught me The One Way To Tie Shoes. Then I met my wife and she had a completely different way of tying her shoes. When we had kids we each taught them our own separate ways of shoe-tying. Now that they are grown up I am dying to watch them tie their shoes to see which method they went with.

@futurebird Congress could do something like that using the Contempt of Congress power: “The inherent contempt power is a constitutionally based authority given to each house to unilaterally arrest and detain an individual found to be "obstruct[ing] the performance of the duties of the legislature." 1/2

@futurebird “The power is therefore broader in scope than the criminal contempt statute in that it may be used not only to combat subpoena non-compliance, but also in response to other actions that could be viewed as "obstructing" or threatening either house's exercise of its legislative powers.”So they could arrest the president, I am thinking. https://www.congress.gov/crs-product/R45653
