Now that I've moved over to Mastodon via @medium I thought it was time for an #introduction. If one word could describe me most it would be "eclectic". My career pursuits include being a meteorologist, IT professional, website builder, blogger and content editor. Offline, some of my interests include Hi-Fi systems, music, motorcycles (ride a Can-Am Spyder), camping, hiking, and healthy dose home technology. I've been away from #Medium for some time and working on my "return". (1/2)

This is me in 1991 when I worked for the National Weather Service at their Weather Service Meteorological Observatory in Garden City, KS. I was radar certified and sitting behind me is the console for the WSR-57. This radar was part of a network of conventional weather radars the United States used for their observation and warning programs. This radar was designed/built well before I was born...and included vacuum tubes! The radar was decommissioned later that decade. #OriginStory #wx #Radar

@chris @grammargirl Tapping into the rest of #wx crowd. but I'm not sure what you mean by absolute. Station pressure or barometric pressure (station pressure adjusted to the mean sea level). Altimeter/Barometric (MSLP) are what is often most recorded in observations due to their usefulness to aviation. My favorite place to go (example frojm1971): https://mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/sites/obhistory.php?station=FSD&network=SD_ASOS&metar=0&madis=0&year=1971&month=4&day=27&sortdir=asc

@lauren Pretty much you have to have 1 million followers to be automatically subscribed to TwitterBlue (and have your checkmark). I think you're safe. 👍

Fascinating video and commentary. Technology has allowed us to hear and see someone born 200 years ago. I wonder what these people would think of our progress as well as lack of progress in 2025?Recording of People from the 1800s are MIND BLOWING - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZU7eZu7DILo
