🌧️ March offered two evenings where the sunsets looked like they had drama potential, and boy did they deliver. My shot from earlier this evening. We are in the Bavarian #Alps near the border of Austria. Neuschwanstein Castle is literally within eyesight of our Alpine hotel. Here's what I learned from a prisoner of war who was held for several years with some of his troops: The pessimists died first, for lack of any hope. The optimists died second, for having their expectations for rescue/war ending "by X date" repeatedly dashed. The realists lived the longest, because while they hoped for rescue or the end of the war, they were also practical about the business of survival.

@ML2 Good choice, staying put! Yes, we definitely tend to be nicer here. That said, there are folks here *on the same side* who still act holier than thou, who will judge your activism as not good enough for their standards, and they can be downright assholes about it. (I DON'T mean you!) Passing judgement for not being the "right kind" of activist is counterproductive to community and consensus building. In those cases, I liberally block people. No time for that nonsense.

💧 When hiking around Alpsee bei Schwangau (a lake in Bavaria), as we neared Hohenschwangau Castle, the trail rose, taking us high above the lake. 🧚 The #forest in #Germany can seem like fairy wood to me. In disparate areas I've encountered elements that deeply resonate, reminding me of illustrated books by the Brothers Grimm, and others from my childhood. (I wonder too about ancestral memories. The woods here feel *familiar.*)🥾 Many of Germany's #hiking paths have been beaten down by centuries, if not millennia, of footfalls. 🪟 A smaller neighboring #castle—within eyesight of King Ludwig II's Neuschwanstein—is his father King Maximillian II's summer hunting palace, Hohenschwangau. The latter overlooks an alpine lake; both are situated in a really beautiful and varied landscape. Hohenschwangau is built in a romantic design, with many fanciful elements. 🏰 The Red Marble Bath at Hohenschwangau #Castle—a neighbor of the famous Neuschwanstein—in Bavaria.As you first walk into the palace gardens, a fountain attracts your attention, along with the gorgeous view of the lake and Alps. Then you notice the red window. Walking closer, it appears to be opaque. ☂️ Happy May Day / Beltane! Here in the #Pfalz region of #Germany, our tiny #wine village had its annual celebration, including a small parade led by a brass band, with two maypoles being carried behind.
