@stux I don't have a problem with algorithms when they respect user intent, are siloed to their own specific area, and clearly explain what they're doing to rank content... but that basically just doesn't exist on any major social media networks. On Mastodon, I just treat the Explore tab with the most liked posts as my 'algorithm,' just because it's a good way to find new people that others seem to enjoy the writing of, although it does have benefits and tradeoffs compared to a full algorithm.

SiegedSec, the "gay furry hackers" that hacked the Heritage Foundation behind Project 2025... just disbanded. They're citing their mental health, stress of mass publicity, and the FBI as the cause. They even said they sent a few private breaches to journalists, so we might get some more juicy stories soon?#siegedsec #hacking #hackers #privacy #tech #technology #project2025

Alt for the screenshot of the telegram post here since it's too long for the alt text:hello everynyan!the time has come for SiegedSec to disband :(yes this is a sudden announcement, we planned to disband later today or tomorrow, but given the circumstances i believe its best we do so now. for our own mental health, the stress of mass publicity, and to avoid the eye of the FBI.

i've been considering quitting cybercrime lately, and the other members have agreed its time to let SiegedSec rest for good. in the past, i have tried quitting cybercrime a few times, and ive always been unable to fully quit. this time, hopefully i am able to stay away from it for my own wellbeing. we may not be a cybercriminal group anymore, but we will always hackers and always fighting for the rights of others.

@stux depends on the game.Auto save is nice for games involving more exploration and travel, whereas I prefer checkpoints for more story-drive games, puzzle yes, etc.

@stux Not only that, this is how Zuck talked about his users during that general time period.

@internetarchive They block Proton's SimpleLogin email aliases, which are categorically not "disposable."https://simplelogin.io/docs/why-simplelogin-is-not-disposable-mail/I would highly recommend ensuring SimpleLogin domains are available, as that's a key way many people protect their privacy.

@stux They clarified elsewhere, but the change is specifically because some jurisdictions define "sale' EXTREMELY broadly (e.g. any transfer of data outside your organization's infrastructure, for any "benefit," which could literally be something like analytics, a survey, etc) and they wanted to make the legal language much more clear. All the changes they've made haven't changed anything in actuality about their capabilities or stance, it's just been legal clarifications of existing policy.

@N33R moonsickness sounds like some cool fantasy term for some sort of plague that sweeps a town when the moon is out on a particular night and people aren't inside.or, y'know, period cramps, that too ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
