@selzero @Jackthelad The “choice” that these private healthcare bigwigs are always bangin’ on about is not what it's cracked up to be. SUre, it sounds good, you got options and that, but this choice is a slippery one - not everyone gets it, and not every choice is a real one. More choices mean more confusion for the masses. People already got enough on their plate, and now they gotta be health experts and economists to figure out which “choice” ain’t gonna leave them broke or untreated. It's like navigating through a maze, only at stake is your health, your money, and sometimes, your life. And who does this hit the hardest? The working class, the elderly, those living paycheck to paycheck. The folks who can't afford the time or the money to sift through the fine print of each "choice" they're given. It ain't just about access to services. It's about access to quality, understandable, and genuinely helpful services without a price tag that'll leave you in debt.

@selzero @Jackthelad Aslo, as Ive seen it here, introducing more private players into the system diverts essential funds away from public. If rich ppl opt for private services, there might be less public support and willingness to fund a robust public healthcare sector. This scenario could lead to a two-tier system, where the quality of care one receives is determined by their ability to pay, undermining the very ethos of universal healthcare.

@Jackthelad @selzero Abt the “winter crisis”. Every healthcare system has its challenges and busy periods, even the Netherlands. Theyre not publicised as a “winter crisis” per se, but doesn't mean their systems are without strain or struggle during influenza season, or recently, the COVID-19 pandemic. No system is immune to increased demand.Second, the claim that these countries "hardly spend any more money" needs a second look. These countries (or lets say NL since you mentioned it) often spend a higher percentage of their GDP on healthcare compared to the UK. they invest not only in treatment but also in preventative care, health education and social determinants of health like housing and employment and even their salary range, which all play a significant role in health outcomes.money alone wont solve everything, that's true, sure. But underfunding is a significant structural problm in and of itself. Without adeqate funding, even the most efficiently designed system would crumble under the pressure of demnd.

So, #ASEAN now has its so-called "guide to AI ethics and governance." While it is not public yet, there have been reports about it like this one from Reuters (https://www.reuters.com/technology/southeast-asia-eyes-hands-off-ai-rules-defying-eu-ambitions-2023-10-11/). What's funny is how ASEAN used the region's diverse cultural and ethnic fabric to justify its approach of putting human rights at the backseat in favour of......... 🙀 BUSINESSES. Therefore, creating a regulatory vacuum. Cringe, I know. The hyperfocus on the ease of compliance and unfettered innovation will pave the way for a precarious race-to-the-bottom, driven by profit motivated companies could and would compromise on ethical standards to secure a competitive edge. The guideline also follows a laissez-faire approach to regulation as it allows individual member states to shape their own AI regulations (SO WHAT EXACTLY IS THE POINT OF THIS GUIDELINE OTHER THAN LIP SERVICE?). Andddd, given the historical backdrop of most ASEAN nations *cough*, which have been embroiled in allegations of human rights violations, a lazy and non-specific guide will only offer a carte blanche for AI applications that would bolster oppressive state surveillance, trample civil liberties, and stifle dissent. The so-called guide's trust in companies to conduct their own AI impact assessments is disgusting. When we leave the gatekeepers of this technology to police themselves, we just end up in a realm of ethics washing. That's where corporations proclaim ethical AI use in public discourse but could operate counter to these principles in the shadows. ASEAN's token acknowledgment of the risks of AI without addressing them merely pays lip service to genuine concerns. #AI #AIDoesNotExist #AILies #authoritarianism

A Techno-Realist Manifesto: A thread (1/N)Much has been said about the "promises" of technology, but for those who have historically been neglected and outcasted by the system, we understand that these promises only mask a new era of exploitation.Yes, you are right. We are being lied to.We are being lied to by the so-called champions of modern innovations. They are singing melodies and lullabies to tame the masses whilst the chains of our subjugation are fastened tighter. The rise of the digital era, hidden under the guise of progress, has in many ways been the tool of the rich to further entrench class inequalities.

(2/N)We are told to remain optimist and accept the top-down approach to technological development as it is. But optimism has never solved the problems of the downtrodden, nor has it ever truly challenged the structure of power that perpetuate oppression and inequality. Handed down optimism from oppressors is nothing but a beautiful façade that hides the tremors of unrest and inequality. We are led to believe that all is well, that the system is working for everyone, but the realities speak otherwise.

3/NWe are being brainwashed that we are the saviours of the world and that our control over nature and our collective intelligence will save us all. This entitlement, a hallmark of unchecked capitalism, believes that the planet is theirs for the taking. The very essence of our birthright should be a commitment to equality, sustainability, and the betterment of all. It is not about amassing power or material wealth, nor is it about laying claim to everything within our reach.

4/NTechnologyThe champions of techno-optimism glorify technology as the only eternal source of growth. They put technology on a pedestal that disregards the multifaceted nature of human progress.Yet, they miss the broader and most important point: Who has access to these technologies? Who benefits, and who gets left behind? Does electric lighting mean much to the young kid in an island off coast of Mindanao? Does the Internet bring communities closer, or does it also create vast digital chasms between those with access and those without?

Ohh, youre too harsh about Kissinger. NO, bitch, no. First, he was instrumental in the secret U.S. bombing campaign in Cambodia 1969- 1973 which kcaused so many civilian casualties. READ OPERATION MENU. Kissinger actions laid the groundwork for the Rouge. The rouge capitlaised on the people's resentment re bombings.Speak ill of the dead, my beautiful bleached arsehole.
