@DashEquals Really don't get why people try to prevent archiving *public* content. All public content from the fediverse is archiveable. Barriers like javascript won't help prevent it. If something publicly federates, anyone can download it, which means anyone can archive it.

@kaiyou1/?The whole making archived content public is another discussion in my opinion, because of copyright and the sorts. However in my opinion your analogy is not quite fitting: on the internet you can choose what to make public. Say, if something embarassing happens you can choose not to make it public. Also on the internet you can choose if you want to show a profile picture with your face on it, use your real name or a nickname, ... The list goes on.

@kaiyou 1/2You have some good points. I agree that privacy laws (like the right to be forgotten) should stand above archiving efforts. On processing without consent I have to admit that I'm not informed enough to really have an opinion on it. But I feel like it's morally problematic to do it without consent.

@kaiyou 2/2I feel like when it comes to archiving public content without consent, it depends on what that data is going to be used for. I don't think it should be illegal to archive public content (w/o consent) just to preserve it (for like museums or historians in the future). But maybe we just have to agree to disagree on that one.
