Is there such a thing as curated lists of reference material for ideas, like "replacements for web browsing"? Someone must have been thinking about this. I'm even having a hard time the past couple of weeks wrapping my head around current thinking of augmentation research around research. You start digging into "augmentation research" now and all people are talking about is machine learning, the singularity, and cyborgs. What I want are "reading lists from Smart People " :bloblul:"You can't save everything, where would you put it?"https://oldbytes.space/@bitsavers/109638111074037723

@xerz I'm hoping there will be some serious out of the box ideas that start to percolate here.

I put up some more information on the "Whopper" aka Lisa 1.75 yesterday. It looks like it was killed right around the time Sculley arrived and Lisa 2 (Pepsi) started. It is also interesting that they were using a Daisy CAD system to design it and that Toby Farrand's name appears on one of the drawings. Toby was incredibly important in the history of Nubus video cards and in the Apple RISC products group.http://bitsavers.org/pdf/apple/lisa/hardware/1983_Whopper#AppleLore

Was stunned to see people advocating for iOS "Files" as a replacement for the Finder.

First pictures of the inside of a Mac Plus 341-0514-A BMU1 16L8 HALtaken by Travis GoodspeedThe green marks point to the chip connections that replace the programmed fuses of a PALThis may be the first time anyone has taken a picture of a HAL"HAL - Hard Array Logic The HAL family is a PAL just as a ROM is to a PROM. A standard wafer is fabricated to the 6th mask. Then a custom metal mask is used to Fabricate Aluminum links to a HAL instead of the programmable Ti-W fuse array used in a PAL."

This is what the soft power circuit looks like on G3s and G4s that supported it. It drives the power on switch input to CudaIt was removed since it violates the USB spec.

@twylo " I think there’s some danger there, danger of missing what’s happening around me right now."The present sucks. Enjoy your memories of a time when those buildings weren't inhabited by soul-suckers.

Unicorn sighting.A ten megabyte Macintosh Applebus WidgetNow, to see if I can recover its data.http://bitsavers.org/pdf/apple/disk/widget/applebus_widget/complete_protoThis was never shipped, The floppy-connected twenty megabyte HD20 shipped instead. The only thing rarer than the device is the software to use it. I'm hoping the only copy I have works.#AppleLore
