@misty @darius i think regardless of the specifics with pawoo itself, the broader trend is towards corporatized instances, and people really need to recognize this as a risk with the current design of mastodon

its kind of wild to me that there's been so few new features in browsersi mean like, i just found myself disliking the size of an image, so i wanted to scale it up. ok fine i can zoom the page inbut why can't i just zoom the picture???? that's the only thing that was too small to read

browsers are fossils now. instead of being hypermedia browsers with ever improving features for how you can interact with and utilize that hypermedia, they're vehicles for web apps that define and constrain behaviori hate it

hey Mastodon! what's a good tool for generating diagrams from code? preferably some diagram-oriented DSL that can be embedded in Markdown. i know of Mermaids but it has a very restricted class of diagrams it can draw which kind of sucks.

like, you can't search youtube for exact words anymore. it just refuses to do that kind of search. things become increasing just centered around what the AI thinks will make you watch videos and therefore sell ads

as a simple example, if you search youtube for "industrial loom heddle", 90% of the results of trash hobby looms, and there's no way to force the results to involve industrial looms or the word "industrial"

a few years ago you could actually find stuff but now? nope!more and more of the worlds knowledge is falling ***out*** of accessibility, making that knowledge increasingly the domain of experts who know where to look and have access to those repositories

i think so many people want LLMs to be a copyright violation because it feels like the only thing that can possibly stop them from causing the social harms they are causing, and will definitely causewhich i think is a profoundly sad thing. if we live in a society where massive social harm causes by capitalists can only be stopped by a few judges making a ruling, we're fuxkedyou better hope that's not the world we live in
