“When all else Fails...Amateur Radio is there” is perhaps one of the most damaging mantras the hobby espouses when used non-specifically. Radio (not just Amateur) is used very successfully in emergency and disaster situations, but I find this phrase when used without qualification very troubling, particularly by certain groups of people. #hamradio #amateurradio

PSA: If you use social media to promote a certain product/service/event, posting other people's photos with a "credit" but without their permissions is NOT OKAY. Imagine Saying to Microsoft "I'm OK to use Win10, because I got the product key from a software developer" #copyright

@jeffcliff I'm not talking about restricting what people can do with their data on their computer.I'm talking about someone taking a All Rights Reserved photo from someone else without asking them and using it for monetisation on a social platform.I was trying to make the comparison in software terms.

Just finished off a yagi antenna for 1296Mhz (23cm). SWR was around 1.5 while assembling, which is "good enough" for me, but will check again to make sure nothing has changed while doing the final adjustments. #amateurradio #hamradio #antenna #1296

Pays to keep an eye on home loan rates vs. advertised rates. Just contacted my bank to enquire why my #mortgage interest rate was 30 basis points above advertised. They said the advertised rates were fore new customers only, but at the same time they they offered to and reduced my rate by 20 basis points over the phone.Pretty happy about that.

You don't realise how lazy people have gotten with email and mail lists until you try reading them off a BBS at 1200 Baud packet radio. Where people would carefully trim out all the stuff they are not replying to, these days you get 3..4..5..levels deep of copied text from previous replies. #amateurradio #packetradio #ax25

oh dear. 5 months worth of #weather data lost when my rpi failed yesterday :( Looks like my daily backups were not working as well as they should have!I now stop the #weewx service before copying the database..On a positive note, I have all the data for this month, so new year, new start!

@nonlinear I have a secondary feed into influxdb which was offsite and not affected - so there is the possibility of exporting into a CSV and replaying into weewx with the wee-import tool. That requires me to read up though, so not a high priority :)

Dear App Developers, a friendly reminder that SysAdmins love it when you code in verbose logging because it makes troubleshooting easier. You App log saying "Connection Failed" could mean a number of things could have gone wrong when dealing with TLS LDAP Connections #sysadmin

OK, so spending 30 mins walking up and down a dozen steps outside for "isolation exercise" was a super bad idea. My knees and ankles have given me a warning not to do that again or there will be repercussions. Warning heeded.

@selea I hear you. Also cancel the subscription, lose YEARS worth of edits - unless you export everything beforehand.I moved to On1 Photo RAW which while they have a subscription offering, they also have the traditional pay for the software, use that version forever model.

@345box Been there, done that, got the badge. My interest in self hosting greatly reduced when I started my career in IT - 20 years later I am not as inclined to come home from a day of fixing computers to then go and fix more computers *grin*
