@futurebird Trying new ideas. Iterative design is the foundation of all science and engineering. Designing experiments is a subset.

@futurebird Kagi let's you filter out all of Amazon *and* let's you avoid using ad-laden search engines and the garbage they promote.

@futurebird Some random thoughts that could probably be gelled into a narrative:Games have been around for as long as people. Video games are just games on screens. We could call Excel a "Video Ledger" and it would be no less accurate.Ancestors who did nothing but play Mankala probably starved. Moderation is key.Video games are unique in that they let us make games that transcend the limits of physical realities.

@futurebird @PedroLopes135 Even AP, which is often considered one of the most-neutral news sources, often has loaded wording choices which go un-noticed by US liberals and conservatives alike.

@futurebird Back in physical media days libraries *did* have video games. Was a much more affordable option than Blockbuster or buying new. Also: Many Broadway and Off-Broadway shows get archived.https://www.nypl.org/locations/lpa/theatre-film-and-tape-archive

@futurebird I too fight this urge to hold onto materials that would be immensely useful for a project that I have a strong vision for.But now I have 20+ unfinished projects and supplies for 20 more. The solution when cleaning has become to ask "Am I honestly going to do this within 6 months," and "If I'm wrong, does it cost more than $50 to replace."If the answer to both questions is no, it goes into a box posted on buynothing labelled "curb alert."

@futurebird I am an atheist, but when I think of 'deserve,' I think about what a karmatic universe would do based on the actions of that person/group.A person who preaches about how school shooting victims are acceptable externalities for the second amendment *deserves* to be one of those externalities.A person who helps feed and clothe the poor deserves to never go hungry or cold again.A group that spreads love should be lovedA group that spreads hate deserves to be hated

@futurebird @benh Can confirm that modern induction burners are almost as good as gas, bad UX aside. Need to have quality steel/iron cookware though. Won't work if it's not magnetic.

@futurebird We get by with a large "air fryer/toaster oven" in the summer, where we cook out on the back porch so it's not fighting the AC. A large one can cook a whole chicken, uses less energy than a full-size stove. We end up just using our oven as a storage for metal cookware.

@futurebird My guess would be that installing cabinets/countertops is expensive, and not all fridges are the exact same size. There must be room for variation.People also usally want maximal cabinet space, so we end up in this weird space.I think the answer is to custom-fit a frame around the fridge to prevent the stuff from getting back there. Though need to be mindful that the fridge also needs to vent out all of its waste heat.
