Yesterday, I visited the Tiananmen memorial event at Liberty Square in Taipei. It was very moving to see people commemorating the suppression of protesters, free speech, and free media.The evening felt quite intense, especially given everything that happened till last year in China-Taiwanese relationships.I wrote more about the event here, where you can also find a lot of photos I took.

#showerthoughts on #css Just used `calc()` for the first time - oh is it nice. People pile on CSS a lot but there were times you had to do stuff like this with jQuery.Anyway. I played around with sidenotes for my blog following the inspiration from Tufte CSS (still skeptical of people who name everything they do after themselves...). Seems to work great! Sure, there are probably more elegant ways to do this around images but whatever. Much better than footnotes, and it works great on mobile!

@simon @allafarce @apenwarr understood in a strong and not weak way, this claim makes the often-made mistake of confusing how (through language) with what (changing mental models of people). Language existing alone isn’t worth anything without the social processes around it - and in politics these processes aren’t worth anything if they don’t include people in power.

@Mastodon Of course Mastodon is not Mastodon. I’ve supported some client apps, have some far procrastinated on supporting the instance, there’s mastodon GmbH and possibly an activity pub layer. Still. I wonder whether clearer support tiers might allow for more support?Maybe this is the job for some non-coders to grow the whole project. Think some pro Fediverse community that offers the usual subscription things and channels most of the money forward to various programs?

@interfluidity I was talking with friends why some meds aren’t available here in Taiwan and they told me that’s because Taiwan has its own processes and certificates instead of copying what the US or EU is doing. So the question is who lacks the resources and just follows the FDA‘s guidelines? And then there’s R&D, production, and economy of scale, of course.
