@lauren Wasn't the AT& T network recently compromised and users' passkeys leaked? Poor timing on Google's part to release this feature now.

@lauren Maybe I did not understand or do not remember the incident correctly. I think it was something similar to passkeys but just for email. But same concept, basically passwordless login.

@lauren It was "mail keys"."The vulnerability revolves around mail keys, which are meant to allow users to log into AT&T email accounts via clients like Outlook or Thunderbird."https://www.theverge.com/2023/4/28/23702176/att-email-accounts-crypto-stolen-hack-api-mail-keys

@lauren But that would defeat the purpose of simplifying the login process. I'm not defending the simplification objective, FTR.

@lauren Exactly! I understand the impetus behind simplification (onboard more users), but it can backfire, for it's a double-edged sword.

@lauren They need to be safer because the UK uses 220V AC vs 110V in the US.

@lauren It looks like Google is following in the footsteps of Apple by making things "easier" for users by removing more and more control. You would think an option to save the bookmarks to a file would be there.

@lauren I see. So export / import works to move a snapshot of the bookmarks, but not dynamically syncing.

@lauren Makes sense. However, to prevent abuse, they can just disable the accounts if they're not planning to recycle the usernames.
