I was still willing to drive at night for about a decade after I stopped #Driving during the day, because car headlights effectively extend the length of the vehicle. Some light always reached my working vision, and my brain filled in a car instead of empty roadway.More recently, I've had enough trouble seeing as a pedestrian that I let my drivers' license lapse entirely.#VisionLoss #Glaucoma

A particularly frustrating experience I suspect happens to many people with degenerative #VisionLoss is when a doctor says your vision is 20/20, or is otherwise pleased with your medical condition, but in practice, you cannot see well enough to accomplish your daily activities, at least the way you are used to doing them.Keeping notes on how specific vision defects affect specific activities, and insisting the doctor comment on the practical issues you encounter, may improve your treatment.

But, in the end, when you are going through #VisionLoss, doctors are not going to help you adapt to the vision problems they cannot correct.Sometimes they will even push medical solutions that can have negative practical impact for you. They may not mention or even realize this because they are so focused on the medical outcomes that they had just as much trouble hearing past patients' practical feedback as they do hearing yours.

When you read my #VisionLoss experience, realize that I have a lot of healthcare #Privilege, and this is not my first (or second) #ChronicHealth condition. Yet I had to level up my skills to get satisfactory healthcare from my providers.I have good insurance. I am white, middle-aged, and historically middle class. I can (and at eye doctors' offices, usually choose to) pass as a "respectable", able-bodied, "fit", cis het white woman. If you don't have these privileges, I see you.

@adam I dimly recall using 2 long past methods to add a CA to an iOS phone. One method was a configuration profile; I don't know whether there are non-OS X tools to create these, or adequate documentation for the format, but I do have one that loads a private CA.The other was getting the cert onto the phone somehow and then opening it. I recall it was very picky about format & location.Possibly there was only 1 method and it was picky about cert format & profile location.

@adam The evidence for & against it being a CA cert problem sounds inconclusive. To figure out which CA certs are being used given no debug access to the phone, I'd probably spin up an HTTP proxy VM, configure the phone to use it, do only di.fm, then look in the logs.Sorry I didn't think of this when we were talking about it before.

@adam I might have some notes about creating the configuration profiles (with Apple tools unfortunately) somewhere that would include the cert format that eventually worked. If this turns out to be the problem, you could publish a quick HOWTO and potentially the configuration profile that installs the CA.Obviously afterwards the user cannot trust their phone, but I'd argue that they already shouldn't trust something past it's security patch EOL.

@yogthos Hearing your viewpoint on capitalism is helping me see its numerous flaws more clearly. And, I definitely want workers, "unskilled" or not, to be paid a living wage. But, I have a different perspective on laws affecting children. I did several things earlier than is the custom in the US, including going to college, working while in college, and renting an apartment. For years, my choices were unduly constrained by laws intended to protect me.

@yogthos Age discrimination against the young is clearly legal, and frequently mandated, here in the US. It seems like a key criticism of capitalism is that as workers, we inherently cannot control our own lives. We currently consider people to be "children" until they are 18, sometimes even 21 (e.g. benefits at my first job). Prior to that age, controlling one's own life is even more difficult than it is for older people, but it is equally essential in my opinion.

@JonathanMBR Interesting; it does not show up for me, in the US. That link redirects me to the browse page, and I get no relevant results when I search for yellow jumper. I hope I haven't missed it. I'll try again in a few days.

@adam From the pages below, it sounds like #OpenStreetMap renders changed tiles for the web site continuallyish as folks add to the data. Torrents would presumably help distribute a big chunk of rendered data, like maybe when one downloads a region onto a phone? But could never help do the actual rendering because it's not a data replication problem.https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Component_overviewhttps://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Slippy_Map#OpenStreetMap_.22Standard.22_tile_server(And maybe @openstreetmap has corrections or a description of when torrents do help?)

@adam @csepp I have yet to find out about local variables in LaTeX myself, although I've been looking.I also don't know how to get line breaks like that off the top of my head, nor have I defined a single-character command, but my approach would be to research code listing environments to see if one of them does this already. I know there are at least verbatim and the listings environment.

It looks like @grapheneos@infosec.exchange is the official #GrapheneOS account on fedi, but I see Twitter posts via the unofficial @GrapheneOS@aspiechattr.me bot that do not show up on infosec.exchange, and people trying to interact with the bot's posts.@grapheneos@infosec.exchange, when you have time, can you let us know what to expect from your infosec.exchange account? In particular, do we still need to follow the bot as well if we want to see everything the project says?

@adam I wonder whether some kind of standard API or convention for authentication and authorization management functions would be a good idea. If one could just visit the same URL relative to a given resource (or there were a way to look it up programmatically) to do password or device rotation, password managers or devices could easily automate it.Of course this would mean that the cretin who stole one's password database would also have an easy way to automate this. *muses*

@adam I was thinking it'd go something like:- resource- identity (possibly nil)- credentials (possibly of multiple types)- command (maybe commands?)- arguments (probably also credentials)Where each command would add, delete, or configure an authentication method. So you'd still need to program functions to use and update each authentication method, but the form split across pages variations would be irrelevant because programmatically, you wouldn't be using the UI.

@futurebird I find it ominous too! My first thought was that when you walk past this sign, you get a quest to rendezvous with Preston Garvey and the Minutemen at the Castle, to fight off the mirelurks' attempt to retake it after you retook it from them."Fish? Monsters? Monster fish?"(I *think*/hope you have mentioned Fallout 4 before.)
