@JamesBoag Oh my god, imagine! The thought sends shivers down my spine. No-one would ever bother to "rewind" the page.

@CliffWade Primary Laptop, Windows 10. It lives in the bedroom, I now have a Chromebook downstairs so I don't have to keep moving the laptop. I then have a billion (yes a bit of an exaggeration) Raspberry Pis running Raspbian, and a Proxmox server running countless LXCs with different flavours of Linux. Primarily Debian based though.

@CliffWade @ocdtrekkie pretty sure there was something somewhere about how long an instance has to be stably running for or something, to iron out the issue of people starting up instances, joining the directory and then either walking away or discovering it costs too much to host, and vanishing without a trace, without giving users a chance to migrate to a different server.

@CliffWade @ocdtrekkie it's a bit odd because it clearly says here:https://joinmastodon.org/covenant"we are generally not interested in promoting brand new and unproven servers, so the submission should not be your primary strategy of growing your community."

@GrahamDowns @markmetz @rolle part of the reason for that "rule" though, was that we saw it as indicator of bots, generally bot accounts follow many many more people than follow them. I can't honestly say that I ever check how many people I follow, or who follow me here. I don't pay any attention to how many people someone who has just followed me, is following either.

@GrahamDowns @markmetz @rolle hopefully more and more people will learn that metrics aren't important. Whether it's Twitter, Facebook, Instagram - obsession with metrics is what is causing depression. It's not a healthy way to live - constantly obsessing about how many people like you or like what you have to say.

@GrahamDowns it's my understanding, that the accounts exist because someone has specifically requested a mirror of that Twitter account - not necessarily the person whose Twitter account is being mirrored, but someone on the Fediverse who wanted to be able to follow that account on the Fediverse.

@lauren but how is it worse than an authenticator app on the phone or SMS? Again the attacker needs to access the phone - just like with Passkeys. So whether you are using Passkeys or an authenticator app on the phone (not necessarily the Google one) - then it's the same issue.

@lauren right but my point is, once you have unlocked the phone - any other method you use SMS, password manager etc - is pretty much broken too, once the phone has been unlocked, all bets are off.

@lauren ok we are clearly going to disagree on this point, so I won't continue down that route. Instead I'll ask - what kind of additional authentication do you want to see implemented?

@miosety I mean... if true, then clearly it doesn't work - because Trump happened. So maybe, just maybe - social media has more of an impact than a search engine does.

I know what I'm going to be submitting for WTF month for #HomeAssistant this year... Manually deleting 1039 iBeacon devices, one by one... There has to be a better way? Maybe multi-select? @homeassistant@fosstodon.org @homeassistant@chirp.social

@rustybrick @johnmu and do they have advice about what happens if you pick a TLD that doesn't have a spam problem when you start, but develops one over time?I think it's a bit ridiculous that someone picking a domain is now expected to research whether there is a spam problem for that TLD.

@wjmaggos while the answer is no - it's interesting that are promoting Mastodon in the app store apparently - https://apps.apple.com/us/story/id1668483560

@stux to be fair.... rubbing your hand over a Hedgehogs spikes is actually quite a satisfying experience (though granted, probably not for the hedgehog).

Has it really become impossible to buy a basic (non touch) #tableLamp, that takes a #B22 bulb? Everything is either £80 or a touch lamp and everything has a bloody SES bulb. When did this nonsense happen? I want a simple lamp for the bedroom, that I can put my B22 #nanoleaf #matter bulb in. The lamp itself needs no smart features. FFS. 🙄#UK @homeassistant
