@PhenomX6 Then there is lightweight mastodon, herehttps://microstatus.org/#feditips

##Thoughts on a #fediverse based #data science platformSay take an instance, put something like jupyterlite on it, and federates across instances. How'd that be?@freemo what would you say?

@freemo Right. However, with something like jupyterlite https://jupyterlite.readthedocs.io/en/latest/It is possible to create a web based data science environment that can be served over the web. There is also observablehq that allows for dynamic visualisation.The federated part is similar to this discussion that we have using text, except now live code fragments can be shared and evaluated along with visualisation over the federated instances. It’s still fuzzy in my head but after working in qoto.org, these possibilities seem realisable, 🙂

@freemo Yup. As a matter of fact, that would make sharing data visualisation and analyses a lot better with version control

@zleap @freemo I have done that as well. They are very good and open about these new ideas.

@freemo @zleap Another app we may need to consider is https://curvenote.comThey integrate #jupyter notebooks with text editor for version control and is an excellent editor. I will see if we can get the developers here and have a discussion. Great tool!

@SteveZissou And you can write in markdown that renders into html, 🙂

@SteveZissou @freemoAs I often say these days, there’s bog #mastodon. Then there’s qoto.org Mastodon, ;-)

@freemo @SteveZissouYou have set up an extraordinary server. And an ecosystem that can enable people to good science on #fediverse Qoto.org is like #arxiv of fediverse.

@DrK @freemo @SteveZissou I too think this is really a good decent server; if you check the local timeline, you will discover nice folks around. The editor is well designed, and this server actually allows you to integrate other federated tools, that's fantastic. I also found nice uptime and so on. #GoodInstance

@freemo @alex In many senses, I find #qoto sets high standards for communication in #fediverse. You have enabled connected services, allowed 65K characters, you have robust policy, we can use markdown in posts, and you are also very welcoming, responsive, and open community!

@BobKerns @freemo In theory whether you're literally in his good books shouldn't matter in a fully decentralised federated architecture. Too much emphasis on #Mastodon smacks of centralisation. Break free and set up the best science server.

@freemo @BobKerns The oligarches with their warped world view are 'deciding' which servers will federate with whom, and whether people will be allowed to quote post and everything their little minds can comprehend. Challenge them at the peril of facing their rude vitriolic outbursts and being banned. Tomorrow they will decide for the rest of us what we are allowed to write! These are tiny little sufferers of Dunning Kruger syndrome, with zero knowledge of the complexity of science and humanities and with some 'coding literacy' are out there to fix the world's problem by sweeping the uncomfortable stuff under the carpet! Talk of Musk being evil! 😃
