Matrix is fun.1) if you federate with matrix.org you'll have a bad time (high resource usage)2) but you can't quite ban federation with servers because it's "outright impossible" (https://github.com/matrix-org/synapse/issues/3173) 3) but also server_acls which aim to solve this...3.1) except they lack blacklisting and while there's an open issue, it had no activity for months (https://github.com/matrix-org/synapse/issues/3953).

Gmail "Confidential Mode", aside from the issues it presents with ethics of adding a non-standard DRM on top of a standardized, federated protocol, is horribly insecure.I managed to write a script that dumps mail contents and downloads all attachments without any difficulty.
