@dee Sort of. Initially I signed up for SDF which is a brilliant instance I would unreservedly recommend. However the serial software experimenter got the better of me and I chose to self host a single user #Pleroma instance. Just to see what it was like.

Quarter end at Oracle. The bean counters and timecard police are out in force (with batons). The nagging emails from all levels of management are unceasing.Now I finally learn which customers have actually paid for my ad-hoc help, advice and consultancy in recent weeks. Some have, some haven't. I don't really care because they actually pose interesting, challenging technical problems.However, I seriously couldn't give a flying feck about the commercials or lack of a project code.If you bluntly tell them you can not attend any Zoom/Teams calls or answer any emails until they raise a PO, this does tend to focus their minds somewhat and get an immediate response 🙂

@cortexuvula @dick_turpin I have this problem. My wife has an iPhone - because our daughter has an iPhone, her friends have iPhones, my sister has an iPhone etc.Problem is - the person she turns to for help like installing an app or actually using the damn thing is me. And I've never owned or used an iPhone in my entire life.She can't grok why I find this immensely irritating. 'Well you work with computers all day so you must know what to do'.

Mastodon has defeated me. The multitude of installation guides and tutorials - even on common Debian/Ubuntu platforms - are lengthy, complex, often dated, incorrect and assume a level of knowledge I simply don't have.In any case, I like experimenting and supporting the underdog so let;s try @gotosocial . @dick_turpin I rather assumed that Friendica was quite a rich, comprehensive functional platform so it would be somehow quite a complicated install. Is that incorrect ? What's the implementation language ?
