@shrugdealer The heartbreaking thing is that this isn't new. At all.My grandmother (b.1915 d.2014) loved to sew and had an eye for fashion. She wanted to be a dressmaker more than anything.In the depression, there was no market for handmade clothing anymore and she had to take a job as a wealthy family's cook to survive.She made a career out of it, became an amazing chef, and retired as a professional baker when she turned 65. I still miss her cooking, especially her breads and pastries.But during my whole life with her, I always noticed her wistful looks into women's clothing stores and her insightful takes on women's dresses at weddings, parties, etc.I wish I could have seen the things she would have created if given the chance.

@tess The best way I've ever heard it explained was by the social media director at Big Software Company, talking to our moderator staff:"Free speech in the US means you're welcome to go stand on a milk crate in the public park and shout about whatever you want. Nobody can arrest you for that. It does not mean that we need to accommodate you on our platform. You have a right to speech, not a right to an audience. If nobody at the park wants to listen to you, and nobody here wants to either, we aren't required to capture an audience for you to shout at."

@hn100 IDGAF how much it costs, (and really, this could have been done much less expensively), MORE NUKES NOW. We're backed into this corner because credulous boomers got gaslighted by "environmental" groups that were funded by the fossil lobby into opposing all nuclear power. Thanks a bunch, Sierra Club, how's this working out for you? Is it going great? Is the environment doing just fine? Fucking idiots. The only way out of this is a massive expansion of nuclear power and it's awesome to see, even if the costs got grifted out of control. Still worth it. I don't care who scammed a bunch of construction money out of it. We need this.

My lilacs at home are gone by, but out here in #Berkshire county, they're still going and the smell is drifting all over town. This white #lilac isn't quite as pungent as the purple variety, but it's still softly sweet and floral. #BloomScrolling #ILoveNewEngland

@IdahoLark @johncarneyau My parents have a TON of hummingbirds (well not really, it would take an insane amount of hummers to weigh a ton) living in their garden, and while I was there last week I fell in love with the sound of them whipping by my head, like a giant bumblebee on Adderall.
