@lxo @CPlusPatch i make a thing. If you want to use it, cool. But use it on my terms or use something else. Both are fine.

@lxo so... Google and Facebook makes lots of stuff open source. Are those library's and projects better than a solodev charging 5 box for a closed source paint program?

@lxo ok. Thanks for responding. We both have the same strong preferences for open software. But we disagree on proprietary software bring inherently unethical. How ever, i do believe strongly in "right to repair", so there is also a long discussion on different open source licenses ,(gpl vs bsd etc). I hear you lean bsd. I lean gpl.

@lxo you misunderstand me. I prefer gpl software. I don't think non gpl is unethical. Right to repair is something i believe in. But it's not unethical to ask for money for something which you can't repair. In that case i just don't think you should tell people that they own that something. Nor should you be asked to provide guidance on how to repair. Or provide a scm repo with clonable code.

@neglesaks what are your alternatives? Tidal and quboz gets too expensive for me (family account w/ 5 different users). I am not a part of the apple family, nor YouTube. I Sometimes find stuff on bandcamp, but i can't buy everything...I ripped one album for my son (i already bought the lp and the artist was not on bandcamp, so i felt 'justified'). But it was not really a rip. Just playing the sound and recording from the soundcard.

@neglesaks i hate that Spotify plays artist so little, i har that they only very recently got block user feature. And i hate that they track you. And i hate that music sometimes disappeared. But i haven't found anything better.

@Mek101 @neglesaks e.g. my work colleagues and I have a shared playlist... It's on Spotify and it's music I'll never buy buy I'll give it a listen. In short: music lends itself well to social consumption, mp3's not so much (although i download the flac i buy from bandcamp, and i have it on a Plex server.)

@adam looking fwd to hearing about it. I think the biggest csv file i got my hands on was 17GB. Working with that in R was not easy as R loads everything to ram (there are tools to handle it, but i managed...)

@Sebschmoller @pluralistic very poignant quote:Sadowski has a great term to describe this problem: "Hapsburg AI." Just as royal inbreeding produced a generation of supposed supermen who were incapable of reproducing themselves, so too will feeding a new model on the exhaust stream of the last one produce an ever-worsening gyre of tightly spiraling nonsense that eventually disappears up its own asshole.

@rysiek i did a similar illustration when i was teaching statistics 101 to economy students. Showed them four graphs of stock returns. Had them discuss. Then showed them it was just random returns, with propability = 0.5 and then random returns inside e.g. plus minus 10 %.I might not have created a single socialist, but they all learned something about luck. And maybe something about stochastic in leadership :)

@adam @matrix i am by no means a knowledgeable person when it comes to e2e. But my small gripe with matrix had always been metadata and the Federation feature. Federation has its advantages, but not sure if the best choice for e2e encryption.
