@sir @jeffalyanak not sure if you're aware of this, but you can go to Settings -> Appearance -> Content of main page and add "What's New" to your tabs, which will contain the newest video from each of your subscriptions roughly in the order you subscribed to them

@jeffalyanak @sir i guess you could consider contributing that feature to NewPipe, given that it's Free Software :)

If anything, seeing this watering down of "open source" to "source available" with the likes of Commons Clause only makes me want to distance myself even further from "open source" than I already have, instead advocating even more for Free Software and bringing attention to the philosophical/societal aspects of software/user freedom and ethical concerns about proprietary software.

@lanodan @melunaka Everyone knows that debugging is twice as hard as writing a program in the first place. So if you're as clever as you can be when you write it, how will you ever debug it?βBrian Kernighan

@revkellyn If it's for the fediverse, I've heard Mastodon is *very* resource hungry. Also depends on a variety of factors like how much media your users upload etc. Here's a recent data point: according to @mdallastella the admin of functional.cafe, his smallish instance recently surpassed 200GB disk usage. He may be able to shed more light on the other aspects of resource usage as well.I've heard Pleroma is a somewhat nicer alternative in terms of CPU usage, not sure about disk usage.

@sir since you use an X200, i was wondering if have an opinion on X200 vs X200s vs X200t? (if you have used the latter two or looked into them, that is)

@twee Gnus FTW π my setup is similar to [0] and it's been working great; the nnimap backend has been much smoother than nnmaildir in my experience.alternatively, try aerc [1], it's really good. i think maildir support is still TODO but otherwise it's great. i'd use that if i weren't on Gnus[0]: https://ericabrahamsen.net/tech/2014/oct/gnus-dovecot-lucene.html[1]: https://aerc-mail.org

@twee i see :)i mean gnus's nnmaildir definitely works, but in my experience it's not as smooth as nnimap.also, i do understand not wanting to install extra programs, and i mostly agree. but i've made a few exceptions to that rule, that's been serving me pretty well. for instance, i run a local dovecot imap server (like the link in my previous toot) and i also use msmtp for sending out mail.i could probably get away without msmtp if i wanted to, but i've been using it forever and it's basically available on every distro so i didn't bother :)and running a local dovecot has been a game changer, it's really great. i used to use maildir only too back when i was using notmuch, but with gnus, it really is great in avoiding slow operations on the emacs side.i've also been meaning to set up notmuch again to index my local imap server's maildirs and then rig it up to gnus for search, but haven't had the chance yet...

Hey friends πI'm moving over to a new account @bandali on the same instance. I've started importing my following from my current account into my new account.I'd be happy if you followed me over at @bandali. I don't plan on using this account anymore, so feel free to unfollow it if you like.

@twee makes sense :) but yeah i think it's worth a shot. of course, the alternative would be *somehow* making nnmaildir as fast/smooth as nnimap :pre msmtp: yeah, that's possible; see msmtp-queue. it may be called msmtpqueue or msmtp-enque.sh or something similar depending on your distro. e.g., see [0] for the arch.[0]: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Msmtp#Using_msmtp_offlinein emacs, there are other ways to do this as well; including using gnus agent [1], gnus-delay [2] or smtpmail's smtpmail-queue-mail [3].[1]: https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/gnus/Gnus-Unplugged.html[2]: https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/gnus/Delayed-Articles.html[3]: https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/smtpmail/Queued-delivery.htmlthinking about this, i may very well try switching to smtpmail, since i'm not using anything special from msmtp
