@seldo @slightlyoff The two aren’t mutually exclusive? People love junk food that isn’t good for them.

@slightlyoff @seldo as a (probably biased) bystander I think you two are actually pretty close in opinion (albeit on opposite sides of the fence), but overly indexing on the delivery and some of the more minor supplemental points.

@seldo @stilkov Is that why? Reading /r/CSCareerQuestions and most of the “Learn React” advice is based off of job listings explicitly listing React.

@seldo @stilkov I’m gonna try to find time to write a full post with thoughts. You’re right of course, but I think how we got to the current equilibrium and network effect might not be healthy or sustainable. We’ve hit a cycle of: React devs are readily available -> let’s make our app with React -> more React jobs -> React is the right thing to learn.Whether that cycle is virtuous or vicious? Did we get into it because React is the right solution? I dunno.

@seldo @stilkov My semi-unique qualification (and/or bias) on this topic is that I work on Edge WebView2. I pretty constantly work with developers who feel some pressure to use it because someone else is using it. I push many of them down other routes that are more correct for their product. I could 100% see a world where my team’s goals are different and I’d be more focused on selling and building in the direction of industry breadth, but at a similar cost to Alex’s “Lemons” post.
