@realcaseyrollins I don't have enough influence on any of those platforms to make that happen, but if I did I'm not sure I could make the case. The #fediverse has a plethora of assorted rules and norms that are not universally considered good and limit its appeal. Both types of platforms have strengths and weaknesses, but you aren't going to see large migrations going either direction because they are not equivalent.

@lauren @timbray I use ad blockers extensively but also sponsor several creators directly. I also pay for YT Premium but it bothers me deeply such a small slice of my subscription actually goes to the creators I watch vs. the platform's cut. Google is a bully and uses their market dominance for both good and bad ends. I would choose not to support the platform if enough creators had alternate platforms to support them on. And I'm quite aware of the infrastructure involved.

@dnkl Just a guess, but maybe because profile guides optimizations require a specific "real world" use case that gets profiled and optimized for, but the thought might be people will have different real world use cases and distros are expected to dish out generic widely useful binaries not ones only suited to some specific use.

@ifreund @dnkl Does it? That would of course make it a non-starter for some distros. Some don't care but some are working hard that direction and would not accept regressions. But does an upstream-provided task and known compiler configuration using PGO *actually* result in non-deterministic builds? Or only if the architecture happens to be different? Or is this just speculation?

@dnkl This change is *much* for the better, thanks for listening to the reasoning in that issue and not the ney sayers who don't have a use case for it. I'm a big fan of the Compose key system but with three different languages and keyboard layouts in use plus doing font devel / typesetting work there are lots of times I have a Unicode value and just need to input it. Having the widely used locale and layout independent binding be the default was the right call.

@Codeberg I've been trying for about 9 months to get into my Codeberg account after loosing 2FA. I've emailed your help a couple times, most recently 2023-03-23 with GPG signed requests and such but have gotten no response. Is there something I can do to get somebody to work with me to restore access?

@Codeberg Thanks for the reply. Running public services myself I understand the problem that resets create, but I've tried multiple times over 9 months. I have lots of ID to verify plausibility from. Can someone search for an email regarding caleb@alerque.com? I just re-sent in case spam got cleared since my last attempt.

@dnkl I see the issue report on @Codeberg but I've still been locked out of my account after a year and a half of trying to get a 2FA reset and can't respond there.I added a requirement to the Arch Linux package blocking older kernels so hopefully people that haven't already run into trouble will get blocked from updating at all rather than updating to a broken release. Downgrading is possible for most people but I'll be standing by for a patch release.

@realcaseyrollins @romin LOL true that. Of the people I follow or have ever seen here I can only think of one, and he's not running for anything.

@phoronix Google is a bully and they had their own horse in the race. Their horse tripped up (temporarily or permanently unclear) so doesn't currently make sense to throw their weight around on the topic.

@hn50 @janriemer @alcinnz How is this actually a Lua runtime? It looks like a wrapper around existing Lua runtimes that injects extra batteries at runtime. It might be more convenient than the original runtime, but it can't be faster and isn't a new runtime as far as I can tell.

@js @stepan …that you should get your news from a more reliable source. Not everything you hear is actually true. Sometimes the most ardently screamed accusations turn out to be the least relevant.
