@noorul @snder Agreed. Yunohost is an awesome project, can save much time for systems admins to host services and to test software. #yunohost

@snder @noorul After installing Yunohost you basically have an email server and XMPP server ready to use, with SSO login web interface. Then after that you can add for example Nextcloud from the official Yunohost apps.

@snder @noorul Not sure what you mean with pre-installed images ? Are you thinking of Docker images ? Here's the admin doc overview : https://yunohost.org/#/admindoc

@snder @noorul Yes, it is more or less 1 click installs indeed for the official Yunohost apps. For the unofficial apps I had to use the yunohost command via ssh. Also nice about Yunohost is the integrated Let's Encrypt SSL certificates that you can let create and renew.

@riking @kaniini @pla "Out of file descriptions" sounds like a problem with your OS limits rather than Pleroma. This might help : https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-increase-the-maximum-number-of-open-files/ A reboot of your server could also help.

@noorul Well, that might be a matter of taste. The toot was kind of a joke. I stopped using IRC years ago. I was also just wondering whether we could have less protocols and less messenger clients and less programs open, but it's okay :)

@kay haha, yes, in an ideal world it would indeed :) While I find the Matrix protocol creative and interesting I'm still hesitant to move over to Matrix completely. If e2e becomes better and more integrated in various clients, and when the dependence on the flagship Matrix server will go, then I might switch. And the new sms <-> Matrix app in F-droid is a pleasant new thing to see.

@architect In my opinion the best howtos are howto which guides you good but quickly through the steps. A remark like that is likely not useful for the readers, but then again you have the right to give it a personal touch. Perhaps better put it in the appendix or notes ? And I'm a bit curious about the howto itself. Please post the web link when it is ready.

@ASIC @chidgey @aral @noorul @franz It is a fact that Apple toys are super expensive, and then there is the expensive accessoires, and the right "to not repair" by choice. Apple is hiding behind a huge paywall. Can we safely promote such expensive products from a USA base tech giant just for the reason of supposedly being more secure and privacy friendly ? Where are the people from under-developed countries in this discussion ? They are not here because we collectively just widen the gap between rich and poor. We live on a luxury island, using toys made of sources coming from those under-developed countries which are the heritage of colonial times. Now, Fairphone can run LineageOS and Ubuntu Touch. That is for sure more privacy friendly than plain Android. https://www.fairphone.com/en/ #fairphone

@noorul Prices are on their website, also for lots of parts that you can buy https://www.fairphone.com/en/ #fairphone (Note : I am not affiliated with them, but I respect their project very much. They are opening a view to the mobile phone world that has been shut for ages).

@noorul I think that Yunohost is great as a small email + XMPP out of the box server, and able to add e.g. Nextcloud, Wordpress, Strut for a few users. But for more users and several email domains there are more fine grained options. There is the Christoph Haas howtos which look very decent https://workaround.org/ispmail but afaik it will not give you a nice admin GUI to add domains, email accounts and aliases. Same for https://thomas-leister.de/en/mailserver-debian-stretch/ though there is an admin interface in progress. I've tried iRedMail and I don't like it so much. I prefer a custom install with Postfixadmin for Postfix and Dovecot setup.

@codesections @dch @mike Fastmail seems to be pretty FOSS friendly. https://fastmail.blog/2018/12/27/jmap-is-on-the-home-straight/ https://jmap.io/ re: Protonmail : Protonmail their Android app has been closed source since long, and gives an error message each time if you don't use Google Play services (Though it does work fine). Supposedly they will open source it this year. At least Tutanota their Android app is open source and in F-droid, and does not demand GP services.
