@paul I'm also self-hosted. I see over 15K requests came in for 1 minute at 8 AM EDT and about 12K at 11 AM EDT. Both hitting /inbox.Otherwise, nothing else

@rolle I feel strongly that people using my server are competent enough to decide for themselves if they want to block Meta or not. Everyone can block servers. I won't force my personal agenda on other people.Blocking is serious. I block servers created for the purpose of hurting people and doing harm. I block to protect, not to punish.Depending on what the messages end up looking like, I may just limit (silence) Facebook and Instagram, but I see no reason at this time to expect to block them. IMHO

There's been interesting discussions in the past couple of days about @newsmax@newsie.social and whether the newsie.social server should be blocked for hosting them (I don't think so, although I did block the account for spreading misinformation, a violation of my server's policies). @stux Is the site even usable any longer? There's no longer a working API for Twitter for a reasonable price.I have it blocked on my server but it's showing that connection attempts are failing.

Looking at the #Cloudflare security logs, in the past 60 minutes, Cloudflare blocked 153 attempts by Google's #AI to read posts on this server, in case anyone had any doubts that #LLMs are feasting on the words of Mastodon posters.While the list of posts it was trying to read include posts from many people on this server, it was also trying to read posts people on this server had responded to, to preserve the entire thread, I suppose. If #Cloudflare is to be believed, #Lemmy instances have a built-in AI scraping bot operating beneath the covers. Do you think the developers have snuck it in?Looking through my logs, these requests have all been blocked by Cloudflare because they are identified as "AI Bots". There are many more requests by Lemmy instances blocked in the logs. This is just a sample. Other Lemmy requests from these servers get through. Only a few are blocked as AI Bots. I turned on #Cloudflare #AI bot protection and have been looking at the firewall logs, and in the past 30 minutes, Cloudflare blocked 15 bots that were trying to read posts on this server. It shows me the posts it was trying to read. I wonder if these people know that AI bots have been reading their posts?And in the past 24-hours, Cloudflare blocked 925 scraping attempts, about 2/3 of the traffic that was blocked.And this is a relatively small server.
