It is painless and if consensus demands it, a fix can be introduced at any blockheight. Its not a big deal. quantum smantum. All quantum is, is transistors with more than two states than the default 0/1. And those multistate transistors use up far more power and generate far more heat per cycle. I'm all for them developing the ability to break SHA hashing. It will only force us to resort to even better algorithms, and there are many to choose from, and breaking SHA will push for far better ones.
