@Anne_Canada @NovaNaturalist @gemellizThey'll only be in deep trouble at the next election. The only real checks and balances on majority governments in Canada are elections; she's been given free reign to do what she wants up until that point.Ford has been governing in Ontario doing a ton of stuff that everyone who watched him could see was on his agenda, but was NEVER part of his campaign. Smith will do at least that much.

@grammargirl @edibuddies Not sure if I knew the rule formally or not, but word order is a very good way to play with emphasis., If I HAD known the rule, I likely would have chosen the third option (actively disregard).

@maxkennerly So network TV in the 80s and 90s, with a side of additional data harvesting?

@gemelliz @lisawedmann They're absolutely trying to force a strike. As a parent whose kids have already had many disrupted years (my 8 y.o. had his first non-interrupted year this past year), I'm tired of this government trying to force their privatization agenda and blame the teachers. The second-last thing I want is the kids of Ontario missing yet more schooling because of the incompetence and agendas of this gov't.The last thing I want is to let this gov't sell off our public education.

@grivettcarnac First off, agree that @Dianora has the right first question.Second, I figure there are three general people who could get caught by this enforcement.1) People who didn't pay this ride, but pay sometimes with single-ride fares2) People who didn't pay this ride but have a pass (forgot pass or forgot to tap)3) People who wouldn't ride if they had to pay, but decided to chance it(There's other groups, like pass users who tap very well, people who don't ride at all, etc.)1/...

@grivettcarnac @Dianora What's the end game of this enforcement? Maybe you get those in group one to pay more regularly (how many of these are there, really?). Group 2, if you start penalizing, will get pissed off and stop riding if they can. Group 3 may not be able to afford to pay the fare OR the fine, so are just getting kicked while they're down.2/...

@grivettcarnac @Dianora So maybe, MAYBE, they get a bit more revenue from fines and people who will pay because they don't want to get caught. But at a cost, directly in wages for enforcement officers, indirectly in people who may just be tired of the BS and buy a car, and a human cost in continuing to pick on those who can least afford it.Ottawa, as a city, is getting meaner, under the guise of pragmatism, rather than trying to be creative and forward-thinking. I'm tired of it.3/3
