@tilvids Corporations and Influencers (including celebrities and politicians) need to see some gain in the other platform in order to invest their valuable time on it. No YT competitor provides any opportunity to earn any money yet. This is the fundamental chicken and egg problem that is needed to solve. Mastodon needs to be more than a twitter replacement in people's minds

@gretathunberg Hi. Did you hear about the girl who made a bagpack that can filter air pollution? Read about it here- https://www.breathinglabs.com/pulmonary-diseases/air-pollution-eleanor-invents-rucksack-to-filter-air/I know cleaning polluted air is not a permanant solution but this can potentially save thousands of lives. She stated you to be her role model. What are your opinions if any?

@tilvids What we need is to translate this growth towards the rest of the fediverse ecosystem. Integrating the various services into one social media is what will truly enhance the value of Mastodon!

@tilvids @mozilla is there not an extension that redirects youtube videos that are also on TILvids. Would make things a lot easier. There are extensions for Odysee and Invidious. I hope such an extension exists and is on firefox

@tilvids @mozilla tilvids or any other peertube instance should make that extension. Odysee has one and it works well. Unless there is some technical or time hurdle, you are literally losing out on easy growth

@tilvids @thelinuxEXP @vkc you should work on content monetisation. Otherwise, even the creators that are on your platform arent really incentivised to promote it.If you only want to be a content delivery platform and not part of creator economy, thats a different story...

@realsimon @tilvids @thelinuxEXP @vkc ok I think I have started a long debate here lol.But it all comes down to one point- Does Peertube, or for that matter, Fediverse as a whole, even support such features like monetizing or being a payer-exclusive platform? Cause if it does, we can just start our own instances which act like patreons or a discord server for those who pay! Anyone is welcome to correct me here :)

@thelinuxEXP adblockers and frontends like invidious and vanced are only a temporary solution that focus on "fixing" YouTube.Google can anytime counteract them whenever it wants. The real solution is to switch to actually different alternatives like Odysee, Peertube, Nebula and others.Having 1 platform for ALL videos of the internet was never a good idea. It should be decentralised and content specific.

@thelinuxEXP I have always said, methods of "fixing" YouTube, (extensions, addons), and frontends (invidious, vanced) are a temporary workaround. Not a permanent solution. Twitch took back their horrible policy. Reddit and YouTube (with dislikes) aren't. This shows clearly that existence of a strong competitor allows no one bully! We should push towards Odysee, Peertube, etc. as much as we can

@domodak @thelinuxEXP yeah. Thats what we mean by pushing. To put more diverse content. So that its not only "nerd" stuff. On Odysee, I see cat videos, news, reactions, explainers and other things too, not just nerd stuff anymore. This is what we have to mimic on peertube and other platforms too

@domodak @thelinuxEXP assuming what you said is true, you wrongly think this content isnt on YouTube or any other platform. The only difference between peertube and YouTube is that YT has had 15 years of knowing your family to figure out exactly the content they want. Just like mastodon, one has to spend some time to get the best experience a platform can offer. There are NO algorithms to please you here!

@domodak @thelinuxEXP when I said, to push, I meant to creators so they start uploading here. Not to the average viewers. The "try new experience" audience is enough that you can have decent viewership even if the joes dont yet commit fully. In all new platforms, naturally the content first comes. Then the audience

@tilvids @nextcloud All in support of self hosting but considering the costs and the know-how needed, this is not it for average or even above average people..Giants like Google are not going away that easily and suddenly that you won't even have time to recover your media before it goes

Google will be sunsetting the Google Podcasts app and shifting all its users to YouTube Music which supports Podcasts both as audio and video. This is a great opportunity for Google Podcasts users to move to FOSS alternatives like @AntennaPod @podverse , etc. or better yet use RSS feeds. The experience might take some time getting used to, but with OPML, you can be sure you won't be losing your subscritptions and progress. https://blog.youtube/news-and-events/podcast-destination-on-youtube-music/

@BrodieOnLinux Honestly I don't think you should make a video.Google "allegedly" or "provenly" discriminating on Firefox is a pretty well documented matterWhether Google intentionally or accidentally does it or doesn't do it at all (imaginary), the truth of the matter remains it is anti-competitive at best or in this scenario with the "blocking adblockers" downright breaking EU laws at worst We need good YouTube competitors. That's all

@BrodieOnLinux let's see what happens.I think Google's prolonged war on adblockers will result in many sub-battles like this one just like any other big tech war on anything. If you do want to make the video, I hope you also address Google's plans on blocking Ublock on Chrome next year cause that seems related to this Firefox issuehttps://www.androidauthority.com/google-chrome-manifest-v3-changes-3386506/
