As a content creator, I’m all for getting more money, but forcing users to watch ads isn’t the way to do it… I think YouTube would lose a lot of viewers if they enforced this on everyone, and creators would suffer as a result.https://www.ign.com/articles/google-responds-to-reports-of-ad-blockers-being-banned-on-youtube

@thelinuxEXPI read a lot of comics and the ads that I actually love are the ones that the creator or comic hosting provides. In that instance, they are very relevant and I actually look for them and click.Your ads are relevant and worthwhile. Heck, even Linus tech Tips has some good self sourced ads.YouTube's general ads are absolute junk and I'll do nearly anything to avoid them. PeerTube is everyone's friend in the end.

@AngryAnt Haha yeah I’d be surprised if it didn’t get overruled by an extension in minutes, but it might also start a cat and mouse game that will only end up making everything worse for everyone :/

It's not a popular view, but youtube is the last Google product I routinely use, and I started paying for youtube premium. At least this way I'm the customer and not the product. Heck, if someone gets demonetized, youtube premium income doesn't go anywhere because it has nothing to do with ad revenue.

@strwbrryJen Yeah, I have premium because I also use the music streaming service, and I watch YouTube on my TV, where I can’t stand ads, but for someone who doesn’t want to use premium, I would totally understand them quitting using YouTube entirely. As much as I think Adblock isn’t very fair to the people who make a living creating content, it’s also a personal decision of how you want to use the web and support, or not support, creators. It shouldn’t be forced on users, they get to decide.

@thelinuxEXPIf you use AndroidTV then I recommend SmartTube. It's a FOSS YouTube client. I started using it about a year or two years ago and never went back. Regarding AdBlock; I block all of the ads on every device I own and I don't feel bad at all about this. Probably in part because of my very anticonsumeristic views. Also, considering the minuscule amount of money that creators make per user from AdSense, I think that watching ads just isn't worth my time. If I actually watch someone fairly frequently, I prefer to just send them these few dollars directly.@strwbrryJen

@thelinuxEXP adblockers and frontends like invidious and vanced are only a temporary solution that focus on "fixing" YouTube.Google can anytime counteract them whenever it wants. The real solution is to switch to actually different alternatives like Odysee, Peertube, Nebula and others.Having 1 platform for ALL videos of the internet was never a good idea. It should be decentralised and content specific.

@Ganderonus @thelinuxEXP @strwbrryJen I don't get people watching youtube on TVFor a YouTuber, it makes sense kinda but for others including me, I just watch actual movies and TV shows for proper entertainment lol.YT UI on TV sucks anyways. Much more enjoyable on PC and mobile. If I do have to watch 1 or 2 videos for any reason, I just download and plug.

@Ganderonus @thelinuxEXP @strwbrryJen indeed, you get a percentage of a penny on average with adsense

@abcxyzFor me it's a matter of position. If I'm sitting in front of my bureau, then I watch stuff on my laptop. If I'm tired and/or feel like laying down, then I watch stuff on TV. I have TV mounted on the wall in the way, that it's visible from my bed.In regards to YouTube IU sucking, I don't quite understand what do you mean. There's no single YouTube app for all TVs and they don't all have the same UI. I feel quite satisfied with SmartTube UI.@thelinuxEXP @strwbrryJen
