@elia Fedora Silverblue is rock solidThe tech stack is deeply diffferent than the one in Nix/Guix thoughSo is teh experienceI don't think they're comaprable, I was just observing a general analogy

I'm doing a second attempt to improve my setup, abandon PyCharm and move to an LSP based setup with Emacs as a clientSo I need to add some dev-dependencies to my projectPoetry takes several hours to recalculate dependencies and that often amounts to loose ONE DAY of workI'm thinking that I should explore the virtualenvs managed by Pyenv#python #poetry

#Clojure introduced me to lispy languagesAnd one of the tools was Emacs Livehttps://github.com/overtone/emacs-liveIt was a .emacs folder that you could just drop in your home folder and that made Emacs a georgous IDE for ClojureRequiring people to learn to deal with Emacs before they can write a single line of the language they're approaching is a stupid punishmentI wrote this after reading this threadhttps://post.lurk.org/@celesteh/108948006491442054

@parasurv @maxxcan GUI has made computing a mass phenomenonyou're being a bit too fast in condemning it, in my opinionjust because GUIless tools are good for you doen't mean they're good in generalsee herehttps://floss.social/@abbienormal/108952017802346899

@maxxcan @parasurv Exactly Spacemacs and Doom are great exactly fir this reason (I called them "Emacs Distros" in my original tootEmacs Live was just another Emacs Distro only less general and it came a few years earlier

@parasurv @maxxcan I was thinking of VisyalCode or how it's called It's a GUI tool used by hordes of programmers Same goes for PyCharmWhy do they exist ?Are M$ and Intellij stupid ?GUI tools are a thing for programmers tooAgain: just because the journey offered by Emacs was ok for you that doesn't mean it's ok in generalIn fact, it's leaving a ton of people in the dust And again I would have personally been one of those left in the Dust

@maxxcan @parasurv you seem not ready to accept that GUI tools can introduce naive people to ITit's not only about educationit's about human naturemany humans find the cognitive style of GNU tools impracticalit's not their fault, as you seem to assume

@maxxcan @parasurv people can learn with GUI tools and then move to more technical toolsbut if thay have to start from tech tools, read man pages, they will simply give up

Apple actually offered the LLVM work to be contributed and integrated into the gccThe offer was refusedLater, the gcc adopted, late and haslty, many of the features LLVM hadI guess that accounts or another successful non GNU projectwith the added bonus of offering an example for the manuals of the pettyness that is a landmark of Richard Stallman's personality and hence of the GNU project as a whole, let alone many of its minionshttps://www.phoronix.com/news/MTU4MzE#GNU #successfulNonGNUprojects
