@lowqualityfacts I think managers are afraid that accepting the idea that employees don't need someone constantly hounding them to be productive will threaten their job security. If they don't need to be managed, what's a manager for?

@statmonkey @StillIRise1963 Imo, it's more likely that they wake up and think "I will remake the world in my image. Since I'm better than everyone, that'll make the world better!" and they just don't realize that they're some of the most miserable and hateful people on the planet precisely because they fetishise pain and suffering as something that "makes us stronger"

@StillIRise1963 @statmonkey They surround themselves with sycophants then can't figure out why they're out of touch.I honestly think the tower of Babel story was actually about class stratification. When someone insulates themselves from the stakes every other person has to live with, they lose the ability to empathize or even understand the context of other people's lives. It's not healthy for them or society.

@SunMcNukes @sammy do you realise that you're the one basing your notion of reality on what you read on Have and Reddit?People who are actually Trans, or actually know trans people IRL, are reacting to the real, actual violence being done to Trans people because someone decided that they're not allowed to exist without being considered inherently evil

@TheAutisticTooter @actuallyautistic @actuallyautistics I don't have much experience with psychedelics, but I did tend to connect patterns that weren't obvious with an unaltered consciousness, though I could still see the connections after I came down. I do this with cannabis too. I like it because when I'm stoned I get the vibrant, visual imagination I had as a kid back, and patterns light up like neon. It takes my sober brain to sort out what patterns are significant vs interesting coincidence

@TheAutisticTooter @actuallyautistic @actuallyautistics I want to add a quick disclaimer here for anyone reading: I had positive experiences, but I was in a safe, controlled space with a sober trip-sitter who I trust completely. I heard stories about how traumatic a bad trip can be, so I feel the need to state for the record that curiosity should come with caution. Don't try this unless you feel 100% secure with the place and the people around you. Also, hydrate!!

@actuallyautistic If you're someone who sees me posting enough that you recognise my profile pic, and if you'd like to keep recognising me, check the #NameChange I will be uploading a new pic in the near-ish future as well. I figured I'd stagger it awhile cause I'm #AuDHD and if someone changed both, they'd be a whole new person to me unless they're like one of my top 3 repeat interactions or @Mrfunkedude cause I can't forget that handle and I don't know why I find it so damn funny #ADHD

@stux even here in Canada, where we have a fair amount of guns (not nearly as many) it's different. I think it's as much the culture connecting machismo to gun violence. Here we see guns as something dangerous, my dad (who hunted) drilled it into my head that you don't point a gun at someone unless you want to see them dead. In the states they're seen as a status symbol, something you wave around for cred. There should be gun safety taught in US schools IMO to counteract the deadly toxicity.

@freemo @sidereal @StillIRise1963 It's a comforting myth to believe that people only do this kind of stuff because they're not functioning properly. It's part of the just world fallacy, the same comforting myth that leaves actual mentally ill people fending for themselves on the streets because we believe that only bad and/or lazy people end up homeless. It's difficult to accept that people can and do make the choice to do bad things, because that means those people need to be actively opposed

@freemo @StillIRise1963 @sidereal People are cruel and evil because they believe they are justified in doing so, full stop. Racism is not a mental illness, because illness implies something physically wrong. Mental illness is something physically wrong with your nervous/hormonal systems, racism is a false belief. It's no more a mental illness than believing in fairies, or that politicians half a country away care about your best interests. Being wrong is not the same as being ill.

The thing older generations need to understand about the younger ones is that we're not trying to rage against the machine anymore, we're trying to evacuate it. And we think we've figured out how and we don't care if the door says "not allowed" in big red letters cause this ship is going down and it's going to make a big boom when it lands and the brass is freaking out as much as we are anyway.

Something I think bears saying, because there seems to be a common problem of older allies taking offense at the change of tactics, as if they did something wrong: Your raging is what broke it up enough for us to find an escape. We're not blaming you for things being bad, we're frustrated that you don't want to go through the "not allowed" door with us, but if we don't all go together the snipers will pick off anyone they can catch and they'll catch a lot more of us if we have to go individually

#USpol scholars and/or nerds:Does anyone know if a constitutional argument has been made for a living wage based on the right to pursuit of happiness? I can't remember.. Cause like, we have research now that pretty well backs up the idea that there is a basic cost of living below which happiness becomes nearly impossible to achieve. Someone paid below a minimum wage will not have any time to pursue anything cause they need a second job just to live. How's it a right if you give up sleep for it?

@RickiTarr most memorable is probably in a tent at an Occupy encampment. Hubby and I had a bit of a thing for weird places when we were dating though, so I have a few to choose from.

Why I boost #MutualAid requests:1-I have actively decided that the risk of accidentally supporting a fallacious campaign is outweighed by the risks faced by crowdfunders whose health and safety are on the line if they don't receive support.2-Most fallacious campaigners are likely in need, but probably can't reveal the actual reasons due to privacy a/o safety concerns.3-Let people decide for themselves what they need4-People actually needing help is more common than scammers@mutualaid

@freemo I disagree that "Queer" has no utility. In your own words:"Then again maybe jsut "non-cis" and "non-straight" might just be more straight forward."That's literally the definition of queer, that you do not fit under the rules of heteronormativity. There's your utility right there

@freemo iirc from music school, middle C was standardized when chording instruments like the harpsichord were invented. Because they were big machines that required somewhat centralized manufacturing and they allowed for ensemble-like accompaniment to other instruments, music just started to adapt themselves to it's structure. Western music notation is also based on the keyboard structure for this reason. And C wasn't the same when it was first standardized, I think it was a lower frequency then
