@ppercepptionn I code WordPress themes myself. It is not easier in general. You have to learn additionally how WordPress works. So for a really simple homepage plain PHP would probably be easier.In this case we start really simple, but in the end it would be a database backed system, with users with various user roles, with moderation and an API. It is clear to me that a platform makes this easier, but I find it hard to explain to someone who does not know these platforms.

@strypey I use Hypothesis. Mostly as member of Climate Feedback a group of climate scientists who review media articles on climate change.You can make general comments on the entire article, but the strength is that you can select a portion of the text and then comment on that.That would be hard to mimic in the Fediverse, you would have to tell the system what you are commenting on. Reversely these comments do not make much sense outside of their context (the webpage they comment on).

@tetrislife Not sure. Hypothesis uses web annotations, which is a W3C standard. And there are several such systems. Whether they exchange messages I do not know. I think I heard that it is possible to use your own server, but not fully sure, that is long ago. @strypey

Wer ja zum Brexit sagte wusste nicht ob es eine harte oder weiche Brexit werden wurde.Ich weiß nicht wie ein Referendum Status Quo gegen immer Sommerzeit ausgehen wurde. @bortzmeyer An interesting choice of words.I would have called the Silicon Valley model of quickly building monopolies, only caring about the rich investors, while ignoring the interests of the users "bourgeois".While the EU model, if it works out, currently the EU is just a digital colony of Silicon Valley, would provide participation to many more people in building and using systems and a more welcoming atmosphere where also non-privileged people feel at home.

@macst3r Ich hoffe, dass Signal dies richtig implementieren wird und sonst kannst du leicht wechseln. WA-Nutzer wurden nach Signal wechseln weil sie ihre Privatsphäre schätzen, mit dir reden wollen oder weil die UI besser ist. Und weil es jetzt viel leichter ist, weil sie jetzt nicht mehr all ihre Kontakte verlieren. Interoperabilität war immer ein Hauptanliegen der Fediverses. Es ist quasi das Fediverse.

@macst3r Das Fediverse wird auch zum Chatten benutzt und nicht alle haben all ihre Nachrichten offen.Die Tech Community fordert nicht nur Interoperabilität im Fediverse, sondern überall. Deswegen wollen wir FOSS, Open Data und Schnittstellen und freie Datenformate.Ich freue mich, dass die Politik hier auf die Menschen gehört hat, die Macht der Monopole bricht und es Konzerne nicht mehr erlaubt ihre eingeschlossene Benutzer fast willkürlich zu missbrauchen.

@stux Refugees should find a safe place, but I do not think this it would lead to less "soldiers"/cannon fodder going to the front. Even if Putin sends 1 million and not 300k, those people are there in a country of 145 million people.
