@mauve Nice talk! I'll need to have a closer look at #Agregore I think :-). Any chance you happen to be in Europe in May? We have a small event then with developers on #meshnetwork-s and wireless community network activists at the @battlemesh. I could imagine people there would be very interested to hear more on #Agregore and #dweb in general.

Gibt es eigentlich eine gute #OpenSource app für sowas, die auf #OpenStreetMap Daten basiert?

@cypherhippie hi! glad to hear you are at the #cccamp23, too :-). Have had some discussions with @mkg20001 from #Funkfeuer #Graz today. It looks like there might be some need for an excellent diplomat like you :-). Any chance to meet some time during the camp?

@flow3rbadge is there a chance that some more badges might be available after (or during?) camp? Would like to get one for my brother who's not at the camp but who is teaching music to kids. And it seems quite interesting for #ChaosMachtSchule maybe? #cccamp23

Nice, the "#Bridge #MLD #Proxy" daemon (#brmldproxy) I stitched together with TC (#TrafficControl) generally seems work on a #Freifunk #Gluon #mesh node. In this context it is supposed to make IPv6 #multicast routers/-ing work again. Currently Gluon filters all MLD to reduce layer 2 overhead with #batman_adv With brmldproxy it can be configured to only emit MLD reports for routable multicast addresses.Next steps: Creating init scripts + packages. Maybe adding hotplugging support to brmldproxy

And then the next steps for admins would be to either set up #lcroute from @librecast or #pim6sd, which is maintained by @troglobit, on #Freifunk gateways. To interconnect #Freifunk domains and communities, to make #multicast services reachable between them. Then your domain for multicast would increase from maybe 300 Gluon nodes / 600 client devices average to potentially >40k Gluon nodes / >80k client devices. Hopefully getting things closer to a critical mass.#decentralization

@mcc btw. which resources can people recommend to get started with #Rust? I especially liked the styles of http://learnyouahaskell.com/ for #Haskell or https://www.codecademy.com/ for various languages so far.

@tschaefer I'm wondering if IPv6 over mobile telephony internet with Android would face the same issues as over WiFi if they activated multicast snooping / routing: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/149630944Fortunately this longstanding issue is hopefully, finally fixed now in Android (haven't verified yet). Now if only smartphone vendors were providing regular, longterm updates...

One thing I initially found confusing with @element / @matrix: How one would share and join a channel. The way you get bounced between instances for that. And in a way for @Mastodon, too.People describe these services as "just like email". But I think the one thing that is missing for that would be a proper #URI scheme and integration in browsers for things you can join or follow in these federated networks. Email has its established "mailto:foo@example.com" for instance.#Matrix #Mastodon

@element @matrix @Mastodon and the rename from riot.im to element.io made these ten times more confusing for me back then... I had an entry for Matrix / riot.im in my @keepassxc and after retrying Matrix one or two years later I thought I had lost my account and that there'd be a scamy replacement. Only later I found out that it was an intentional rename...

@matrix @element @Mastodon oh yaiy, awesome, exactly! Didn't know that existed already and that seems to make a lot of sense. So I guess the URI scheme is supposed to replace the https://matrix.to/ scheme eventually, once enough browsers/applications support it?

Visiting the @HSBXL lately, after all these years, was a lot of fun. Loved the friendly, open culture and the mix of languages. There was one language moment I found particularly interesting: There was one conversation in French somewhere in the room, which I couldn't really listen in (my FR skill is still WiP) - but I heard #Merdification and my brain triggered: "Oh, they are talking about @pluralistic 's #Enshittification.". And yes, the FR #Wikipedia article has that translation, too :-)

@HSBXL @pluralistic on the other hand I'm surprised that the German #Wikipedia, which I would be more familiar with and which has the second most articles, doesn't have an article on #Enshittification yet. Wanted to verify that we don't translate it to "Scheißifikation" in German (which somehow would sound weird to me and which I never used with friends). But that's probably because we are (mostly) quite used to Anglicisms in Germany, especially for tech.

Still looking for a suitable new phone from time to time. On the #LineageOS website there's a very helpful list of officially supported phones. But on the phone details list I see that some/many of them still only run a deprecated #Linux kernel...Even the #Fairphone 4 is listed with a deprecated 4.19 kernel, while their websites is boasting about "software longevity" and "software support until at least 2026".Is none of these manufacturers able to upstream their shit into the Linux kernel?

@futurebird good question. The size of a rack is pretty standardized, as well as the network connectors. But not where they are. I guess that could be standardized, too, so that in the end you'd just have to slot in such a pizza box sized server and some SFP(-like) connectors in the back would slot in in the same go. The downside would be, you'd have to upgrade the whole rack if you'd want to use newer, faster network interfaces? Right now one is really flexible with SFP connectors and cables.

@futurebird @cohentheblue @yurnidiot I learned fast touch typing, both QWERTY and Neo2, with a specific game that I'm not sure if it would be suitable for fifth graders... ehm, *cough*, #TheTypingOfTheDead. :DOriginally an arcade shooter, was adopted by Sega for keyboard inputs. You'd have to type the words over the zombies while they got closer and wanted to bite you. Endbosses had ridiculously long sentences with very unusual words :D.The adrenaline really made you type fast, hehe.

@futurebird that's funny, the percentages Mastodon currently shows me add up to 105%. A minute ago it even summed up to 107%.(I also too quickly clicked on the third option, would have chosen the fourth one instead.)
