is there a good book/course on "linux fundamentals"?i am capable enough with linux to use it but there are a lot of concepts I don't actually understand, for example: permissions (users, groups, file permissions), networking, and key management (ssh, gpg).i know to do all the things, but only by memorization, scripts and habits, not because i actually understand them. is there some central place to learn about it all? like a de facto "introduction to linux"?

#rss users: what do you subscribe to for general news?i follow some NPR podcasts but i don’t always have time to sit down and listen to a podcast. i really want to delete apple news from my phone but i can’t seem to stay up to date on general news with just my rss feed reader.

@Naughtylus i’ve heard of it but never actually looked into it. i know it’s written in rust, but does it use rust as a scripting language or something?

despite being a modern american high schooler, i’ve avoided widely accepted social media like instagram, facebook, etc. but now with college coming up, i don’t know how i’m going to remain in contact with everyone without it. until the fediverse serves my needs completely, i might have to give in for a while :(

@kev @RyuKurisu +1 for miniflux. i’m on iOS but i use the miniflux pwa and self-host it on my home server. super light weight and easy to set up, surprisingly lots of features, unsurprisingly lots of customizability.

my university dining hall has tvs that show the news, and i happened to catch a bit about the dangers of mainstream social media and how there are alternatives like Mastodon. it’s not like this is a mainstream news channel and i doubt many people here pay attention to it, the recognition made me smile 🙂i’m glad that my (very tech focused) school chooses to show this content.

@fatboy the only feature of systemd i actually interact with is custom service files for hosted applications and stuff. what do you suggest as an alternative for that?
