@jupiter_rowland okay well, how many steps (and which) do you need to take to fav or boost this linked post? https://chaos.social/@SoniEx2/110023142899250535and what if it were posted on something like IRC or email instead, how many/which steps would it take then?

@jupiter_rowland yes, which steps you, personally, as a hubzilla user, would be forced to take by the various cross-interacting software (between the OS, the browser/desktop app, the window manager, the instance, and whatever else might be of relevance), to be able to interact with said post from your fedi account?

@jupiter_rowland okay, so from something like IRC or email you have:1. copy the URL2. manually switch to the browser, then to the instance3. click search4. paste URL5. finally, hit enterwhereas something like twitter it's just1. click URLdo you see the problem? do you see why fedi is bleeding users?

file type associations sure were a great way to spread malware huh."oh look you can double-click this file and it'll automatically open in the correct thing""oh look you can double-click this other file and it'll steal all your data"

@davidrevoy we propose adding "respect your creative choices" to spam filter.can't think of any legitimate use of that phrase.

hello linux fans and non-fans and begrudging users, we would like to pre-announce SystemDonut, a new kitchen-sink init system targeting musl. its main feature is that it's not systemd, that is, it's not coupled to glibc like systemd is. expect a full announcement 2026-04-01.

@daniel you could also have a setting to automatically convert mastodon links to web+ap?

@silverpill thanks for letting us know, we'll update it soon.here's the patch for an old version of mastodon: https://github.com/glitch-soc/mastodon/commit/f8a515e0c3d481a391cc2f5168c75fc9e4b118ae

@silverpill it's the main thing fedilinks is concerned with, it's primarily an API project. sure, it exists to enable a particular UX, but ultimately the problem it solves is: how can apps implement the UX, if there are no suitable APIs yet?however, there's a suggestion of adding an "Or open in an app" link within the "remote interaction dialog" shown to logged-out users on mastodon instances. as far as we know there are no implementations of such tho.

@silverpill this isn't to say UX wasn't taken into consideration: it was loosely based on the existence of WinRT's LaunchUriAsync with a FallbackUri, such that even the restrictive environment of a WinRT app can still use it.
