It's a beautiful sunny day up here in the North of Scotland and I am listening to appropriately bouncy, happy music., specifically "Mrs. Bean" by The Essex Green.

This is an interesting choice. For me, as a character, Bond is pretty redundant these days, variously, but 007 meets Sicario could be decent.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn41yddj4m1o

@amiserabilist @mothninja Admittedly, the sole reason we went there was because it had a pool table.

Alan Dershowitz here shamelessly and publicly arguing that the age of consent laws are not only "too high" but *way* too high, which I think says a lot about the moral turpitude of modern 'Murica.

@TwoClownsEating The socialist zeitgeist of the first few decades following WWII, a direct result of the brutality servicemen experienced in the trenches, would be considered politically impossible today. And I agree the original Dr Who theme is one of the most important pieces of electronic music ever recorded.

SNP disappointingly have abandoned their objections to the Rosebank oil field. To rub salt in the wound, one of Rosebank’s owners, Ithica Energy, is majority-owned by the Israeli fuel conglomerate Delek Group.Nicola Sturgeon’s net-zero agenda is completely finished and the SNP are morally ruderless.I think I'll be voting Green at the next Scottish elections.https://archive.ph/uY5NZ

"The new Green Party of England and Wales leader has backed Scottish and Welsh independence as part of a wider attack on the UK’s political system. In an exclusive interview with Abolish Westminster, Zack Polanski also called for the abolition of the House of Lords and the monarchy - his most sweeping criticism of the British state since taking on the role."https://abolishwestminster.substack.com/p/exclusive-zack-polanski-backs-scottish

I found this absolute unit on the National Trust for Scotland's social media feed, and thought I'd share it here.Per their post, "Did you know we're experiencing a mast year? This means there's been a bumper crop of nuts and seeds from our trees – and our squirrels are very happy about it!"

They also say the following, "We wanted to address a few comments around this post: grey squirrels are a non-native species, and we completely understand the concern around their impact on our native red squirrels. The Trust has been working for many years to help protect red squirrels across Scotland through woodland management, population surveys and supporting regional grey control efforts where reds are present. On Arran, for example, we work hard to ensure the island remains grey squirrel–free to safeguard its red population. This particular photo was taken at Geilston Garden, where red squirrels are not currently found. We shared it simply to illustrate the abundance of food this mast year has brought for wildlife – but we absolutely remain committed to protecting Scotland’s native species and the habitats they depend on."

@ChrisMayLA6 We're being gaslit at a global level by COPs, and I think this has been the case and the intention since their inception. We have to assume we're not going to curb our emissions, which means we're going to continue to track the worst case scenario on the climate modeling, models which already hugely underestimate the true extent of heating from existing emissions.

@iwein @ChrisMayLA6 I agree with your sentiment that our only chance of a dignified collapse is with the public taking back power which will include organising our own climate summit.I can't see any scenario where the 99 per cent regain control of proceedings more broadly though without massive violence being inflicted on us, as our ruling class will not yield power voluntarily.I encourage people to read this blog post by James Hansen, which sumarises his group's findings. It explains that we're in far more trouble than people understand and that a doubling of atmospheric CO2 actually equates to 4.5C of warming, plus or minus 1C, though I personally suspect we're tracking the worst case scenario.https://jimehansen.substack.com/p/seeing-the-forest-for-the-trees?source=queue

@futurebird @goaty I adore learning new things about nature.I know some people are of the opinion that we can't fully explain life purely through DNA, and when you consider that these basic creatures are capable of this astonishing engineering in response to seasonal flooding, one can somewhat sympathise with their thinking.

@aral I'm seeing some people on here who are very angry at all the Americans who didn't vote for Kamala, be it by abstaining from voting or voting for a different candidate. These people honestly don't have the slightest inkling that their own "I'm alright Jack" attitude is a core part of why we're in this mess.I hope these individuals gain some insight, especially re the need for systemic change and how the Dems and MAGA are simply two sides of the same coin.Everyone who isn't signed up to unchecked fascism needs to be pulling in the same direction, preferably in the direction of a general strike.
