@WashedOutGundamPilotThis is exactly why we went single-income once kids were on the table. Unless both people are making comfy white-collar salaries, it's not worth the cost in time, money and/or sanity to hire out a village to raise your kid.

Certain types of collaboration are really painful if you try to do it remotely, compared to just getting everyone in the same room or stopping by someone's office to chat.But not every business is a Tesla, or a FAANG company who can afford to pay $200k salaries to top-tier employees in exchange for riding their asses into the dirt.He is also conflating knowledge work with factory work, which surprises me. Most people cannot mentally grind or maintain a high-flow mental state for 8 straight hours. The work happens in bursts of activity, with mental breaks in-between. When stuck in an office, the mental breaks take the form of fucking about, goofing off on the internet, gossiping, etc.When people switched to remote work, they were able to reclaim that mental downtime and commute time, instead of it being wasted at the office. But Elon insists that time is HIS, and he is determined to squeeze it out of his employees by keeping their butts in the seat. Maybe he can, or maybe he will start having staffing problems.

@WashedOutGundamPilot @KateMoss1 I picked a major in the social sciences for undergrad, so I had to take a lot of sociology classes to fill course requirements. Despite having different themes and subject matter, most of the sociology courses followed the same template: "A postmodern critique of x topic, from the perspective of disadvantaged groups."It wasn't as dire as the more recent anecdotes; the teachers were willing to entertain other opinions... but the material was similar enough that I could reuse the same essays in multiple classes, with only minor revision and some word substitutions. One entire year of college was basically me copy-pasting past material into new essays, like some buzzfeed journalist trying to make their quota for the month.

@elftummy @Nirty_Digger I miss the toilets we had in college. They used about 20 gallons per flush, with the force of a jet engine. Who needs janitors when the toilets are powerful enough to flush concrete?
